I'm waiting to see a repost of the video. I heard they briefly showed off fishing very early in it.

Sometimes I think things get lost in translation as far as the economy. There's no way that fish won't be used in cooking and alchemy as the recipes are there for them on xivdb. I think what he's meant all along is that it won't be like FFXI where you can catch fish and NPC them and still make a decent profit. Like everything else in this game, vendoring stuff is going to bring next to nothing in terms of money.

The description on the Phial of Fantasia is something like...

Users of this draught go to sleep and awake a whole new man (or woman).
[Character will re-enter character creator when next logged in]

I wonder if the treasure map thing will be exclusive to Fishing now, or if not, what point there will be to fishing at all. If you like fishing for the sake of fishing, sure you're fine, but I know I won't be leveling/using the class at all unless there's some benefit to it.

It seems that fishing will be interesting after all. I especially like that we have to discover most our selves :D

As always I'm going to wait for release to judge but and along with what people are saying on beta forums.. if it's just about achievements then fishing will no doubt take a huge backseat for me except to finish it all for the elitist/accomplishment side and then toss the pole in the closet lol. Unless at a later time they make it more intriguing and part of the overall economy.

Not sure how big of a part it will play in helping your FC so we'll see. Was hoping for more but I've turned my attention to DoH and DoW/DoM now.

However, I am really excited for P4 to begin and get stuff lvl'd up and that's just 1 of many things on a long list. Guess it's good the cap is 20 for now.

I was totally in it for the gil, lol. I was one of the first NA people on my server in FFXI to discover how worthwhile Moat Carp were.

Now all we can hope for is that the fishing system is actually fun! Personally I'm not too worried about it. Maybe it's as simple as just casting your rod and pushing a button to catch a fish, but it seems like there'll be much more involved, like using caught fish as bait to try to catch other ones, and the sea and sand fishing. And over time I'm sure we'll see more content added like ferry routes just for fishing, maybe even stuff that was in FF11 like the weekly fishing content, fish gutting for items, etc.
