This makes me wonder if a multi-meld HQ Lv48 tool can meet/beat the luminary... I don't know the stats on an HQ tool.

Not likely, stats on a HQ start out with capped attributes for the primary. So forbidden melding could raise other things but wouldn't cover that distance.

While I have heard this "fact" with regards to accessories, I wouldn't be so inclined to believe it applies to tools without seeing some evidence.

actually materia cap is tied to the item level
the more the item level is up the more materia stats you can get so nope dont think a HQ rod would beat a lumi or halcyon

on a side note it would be fun if we obtain Halcyon through a quest that tells us to catch HQ legendary fishes lol

It uses the least amount of shards so...that's 6000 catches right there (since I haven't seen any fishes reeled in in multiples yet >.>)

I had enough fishies from getting the Luminary rod to get to the alchemy luminary as well, but I focused on the fish used in making lightning shards/crystals so every synth netted me more lightning shards/crystals

Yeah its a bit of a bummer we can't make shards anymore with fishes or fishing. Lots of people arn't realizing that you dont get them from drops either like in 1.0. Bot and Mine are going to be well in demand.

Unless you farm elementals on DoW for shards. Who knows if they will drop anything higher than shards in the higher mob lvls or not though. Still not as consistent as the DoL.

Crystals drop off elemental mobs that are higher than level 25. I've yet to see a cluster, however xivdb has it listed as being gathered from level 50 nodes in Mor Dhona.

I WANT to say I was landing Blacklip Oysters frequently in the Costa Del Sol Noscea area.

Maybe. I know I caught a bunch, I'm just not sure where.

It wont take long to get these all figured out. Once we start getting office LOGS to verify locations and bait I'll be updating the Resource Thread: http://www.disciplesofth....aspx?g=posts&t=1143 and the document to reflect these.

Anyone know the bait used to catch the turtle Minion? Does it require a level 50 fishercat?

VVVV Thanks!

Second-hand info from BG:

Quote:
The tiny tortoise is fished in the salt strand in Lower La Noscea (not at the sea side but on the icy thing). Most noticeable thing is that its a coastline type so using a floating minnow or anything that is best for coastlines fishes it up faster, though I'd say that Yumizuno fishes it up more quickly. Also, it's really veeeeeeeeeeeeeeery rare to catch one.

Last thing I wanna say is that he doesn't run but rather SPINS!!

I'll definitely be a minion collector ^ You can trade as well some of them before they are used.

(sorry, can't seem to post new thread so using this one)

Lvl 5 Fishing Quest "Bigger Fish to Fry" - difficulty with bait selection

I must be doing this wrong ... Blink

I completed the initial fishing quest (using lugworms) then picked up the next quest which required pillbugs as bait, which I purchased and have in inventory bag #1.

However, I cannot seem to select anything other than lugworms as bait. I am in the correct fishing area (docks, Limsa). I asked a guildie, he said I should be able to access all of the baits available after I select the #1 hotbar slot (which holds the bait). However, even if I have more than 1 bait in inventory, I don't get a box listing baits. I cannot get a "check mark" to appear in the bait slot, using mouse click or #1 keystroke. I have used up all of my lugworms so that the only bait available is pillbugs, and have abandoned and re-taken the quest.

I even checked keybinds to be sure nothing weird was entered for hotbar row #1, slot #1.

Has anyone else encountered this? I may be missing something very simple, I hope that's it, but I just can't seem to fish with my pillbugs. Confused

Thanks

Can't seem to post an edit to the above - but just want to make clear that I did put the pillbugs into the hotbar slot #1 lol

Chosing Bait is an ACTION, so if you hit P on the keyboard and then go to ACTIONS you can drap "Bait" down to the action bar. This lets you select from whats in your inventory.

I exclusively fished in 1.0 but am starting a new character with friends on a fresh server, and trying to make fishing my main job again in ARR. I know they nerfed its economic viability, but I'm trying to rush through and be the first to provide fish to the market on a new server (currently level 23 fishing in launch version now).

Do you guys know of any fish that will be targets to sell that are important in sought-after recipes? I hear people talking about Shark Oil but not sure where to catch the required shark for that. Any other fish that you guys can see being valuable that I should we should be trying to sell early on that can't be bought from NPCs and is used for some important recipe?

It's too bad we can't make crystals anymore =(
