So has anybody determined what the valuable fish are/will be? I can see Silver/Hammerhead sharks being valuable, although I've had a dozen silver sharks on the market for a couple days and nobody has bought any. They're not RIDICULOUSLY priced at 400 gil each... I dunno, maybe that's high, but it doesn't seem that bad.

The other option is probably blacklip oysters since alchemists use that for an easy high level recipe which goes into +crit/+int mage gear I believe.

Is there anything else? I have not found much of anything lucrative at all =(

Just so folks are aware, I've been editing a post in Truvy's guide post (and edits don't show an updated time in the "Latest Posts") but I posted a few fishing spots that seemed worthwhile for grinding, along with posting a link to a spreadsheet for detailing fish & bait correlations that I've been updating that's sitting on my dropbox. Here's the link in case you want it, and I'll also post it in the OP.

https://dl.dropboxuserco...F14%20ARR%20Fishing.xlsx

One thing I realized today is that floating minnow works in both salt and fresh water and I've predominately been using it for saltwater fish, so eventually I'll have to go back and document the freshwater fish with it.

Right now my play time is kind of sporadic, due to splitting time between going through the main storyline with a friend and actually fighting the servers to log on, but I'll keep posting updates as I can.

If you're on a new server, I think a lot of it has to do with people being able to level gathering much faster than crafting. Crafters will probably have to catch up to be able to actually utilize the stuff you're selling.

You might want to look into the various corals. I know back in 1.0 red coral sold like crazy as it was used for high level goldsmith synths. As you said, sharks seem to be pretty popular, but again, among the high level crafting community. Whitelip oyster could be useful as well as it's needed to craft the fishing hat..but more high level crafting stuff. XD

Personally I've just been listing everything on the markets that have a recipe associated with it, if it's reasonable to do so. If it has a vendor selling price, I list it a bit under that, and then try to find a reasonable price for the HQs.

Made a thread on the official forums asking the devs to adjust the Cage Feeder baits somehow. Their price is more in line with a lure than a bait and they shouldn't be single use for that kind of price. They either need to be flagged as a lure or have their price brought down in accordance to a similar level bait.

Hello everyone.

If I mat id like to ask a few quick questions, how exactly is bait working in ARR?

Are baits classed? (freshwater, saltwater, etc)

Will copperfish for instance bite to any freshwater bait that is above the level of the fish?

and how does crossover bait work, such as floating minnow? does it work anywhere because its a lure?

Are any fish only biting to a specific bait?

thanks
and just in-case it helps anyone, the database on fish im puttting together, still a WIP, only level 30 atm

Hi and welcome to the site! I'll try to address your questions.

Baits are separated by Freshwater and Saltwater. There are also baits specifically for Dune Fishing and Cloud Fishing which come later on. There are also some hybrid baits that'll allow you to fish in both fresh and salt water, as you noticed with the floating minnow.

As far as to which fish bite on what bait, this is a work in progress but it kind of varies. As you start fishing at higher level areas, certain baits will simply not function anymore, such as trying to use a moth pupa at a level 20 or so fishing spot. I have a WIP spreadsheet detailing which fish are capable of being caught with which bait, but it's hard to determine if there's a "favored" bait as there was in 1.0 due to a lot of factors.

Also, the bites from certain fish are so overwhelming that you'd have to do several hundreds or even thousands of casts just to get that one bite on other fish within that same fishing area. This is just me thinking aloud, but I think each fish has the potential to bite on every bait within it's level range or higher, but as mentioned above, certain factors will prevent you from possibly ever seeing that fish ever bite on certain baits.

Anyway here's a link to my WIP spreadsheet with fish & bait correlations. Below it is a link to Truvy's guide that details every bait available and which type of water it's used in.

So I caught two dinichthys, a level 50 legendary fish by double mooching off Sahagin area.

http://xivdb.com/?item/4922/Dinichthys

Does anybody have any info from maybe 1.0 or what they've seen in this about what they're used for, if anything? Are they for any quests, any recipes, anything at all aside from a notch in the fishing log? I don't really feel like vendoring it, but I'm curious to know if there's anything they're used for at all.

Been busting my hump. Only level 40 at moment. Been waiting for the rain for 4 hours.

Fished every node except for the skyfishing nodes so far.

It's so much fun.

Where can I buy herring balls and a heavy iron jig? Both are around level 35-40 ocean fishing stuff.

I'm trying to fish in the Sapsa Spawning Ground which is up in the Sahagin area. I fished there once but I forget what bait I was using, and now none of the 10+ baits I have in my bag work. Anybody know what works, or the answer to my above question?

You can buy them from the Fieldcraft Vendor in LL at Hawkers' Alley. Sorry for the lack of info in the bait & lure post, I updated it there.

Swear I looked there lol, will check again, thanks.

Herring Balls can be purchased in Costa del Sol. Not sure about the Heavy Iron Jig. You can get the Iron Jig at Costa del Sol as well.

So I'm at the triple mooch quest for Bloodshore and was wondering what results others have had. I'm on my 2nd 99 stack. Lots of silver sharks off 1 mooch, blue octopus, other regular fish. I am on the shore of North Bloodshore with the fate behind me so I hope that's the right area.

Found this: No it is not wrong the north bloodshore is off of a dock near the hidden falls go to the ferry and follow the north wall until you reach the docks. Once you use the goby balls the only fish i caught was the herring.

That didn't take long once got to the right spot:
