Hello Travelers,

The initial shell of a complete Resource Compendium is now underway. Below you will find a link with the latest update on Google Docs:

https://docs.google.com/...NVFjQ3M/edit?usp=sharing

This document link allows you access to view the content I've published. I have not converted it into a online doc since Google seems to dislike all the image thumbnails. No matter! I will keep this thread updated with revisions and update history. The 2nd post in this thread will be reserved for the Change Log as I make edits and such.

The END goal is to provide the most comprehensive information about every gathering class (where what how etc) and the resources obtainable from them + cross-link with what you can do with said resources (ie, hyperlinks to the actual recipes)

EVENTUALLY I would love to see Kida incorporate this information into our beloved DoL DB as I know he has plans to do something here. I figure, this resource will make a nice place to store and gather the information.

I will use subsequent posts in this thread to request information and comment on various aspects of the compendium. This project only works with your help! Some of you have already started tracking some of this stuff which is great! I invite you to share your results here and I can update the compendium as Information comes in.

I look forward to working with everyone on this and enjoy your travels in this new land of ours!

TO DO LIST

  • Format Fishing to track Locations, Bait, Special Conditions, Notes DONE 08/20/13
  • Add Mining
  • Add Botany
  • Add Food DONE 08/20/13
  • Add Recipes for all DoH
  • Once Recipes are added, add hyperlinks
  • Update Minions

Smaller Items to Do:

  • Verify what 'body' the following lures are used for:
    1. Iron Jig Class Saltwater unless proven otherwise
    2. Sinking Minnow DUH, its Saltwater from 1.0
    3. Heavy Iron Jig Class Saltwater unless proven otherwise
    4. Spinner Class Saltwater unless proven otherwise
    5. Yumizuno Class Saltwater unless proven otherwise

  • Collect names of all 'standard' locations where fishing can happen (since schools/nodes don't exist anymore we need consistent names to reference...likely take these from the fishing logs for prosperity sake)

Very nice start! Now we just need to start populating a bait > fish correlation table. I started a spreadsheet but didn't get very far.

First and Foremost...*faint* @ the size of the flippin lists! 189 database things that can potential be caught from fishing, using 44 different baits and lures! ...and i had inventory management issues before >.>

Nice compilation so far, looks like it might take a while to complete compile the information though.

Awesome information so far. I will take an in depth look when I get some more time and I will of course find a way to implement it all here on the site. Thanks for doing this :-)

Im curious if these Jigs and spinners are universal lures (since IRL you can use them in either) or if they will end up being saltwater since there are SO FEW lures in there without these.

Also there appears to only be 2 baits for Skyfishing (Cloud) the Hoverworm and Balloon Bug. I wonder if the 'ALL types' Baits like the Rat Tail and Glowworm will work there too (or Sand for Dunefishing) or if by ALL they mean only Fresh or Saltwater.

OKAY...that was festive. I am now however ready to start accepting any and all fishing verification you might have. I would prefer to have it in some recognizable format that includes:

  • Location (preferably the actual name from the Fishing Log)
  • Fish Name
  • Bait Verified On
  • Used to Mooch? (Y/N)
  • Caught With Mooch? (Y/N)
  • Used to Double-Mooch? (Y/N)
  • Caught with Double Mooch? (Y/N)

There might also be some consideration for the following things and will need more information:

  • Time
  • Date
  • Weather

These last three are interesting, and with some of the new descriptions for these fish might actually hold some 'water'. Could just be flavor text but there are references to only being caught in the rain or at night, etc.

Ok since i got a 90000 disconnect for world maintenance i uploaded a new revision to the guide. Has some population of bait combos for various fish, and a couple mooch results too.

PLEASE send in (post here, email me, send link to your own DB on docs, etc) your results and I can populate into the guide too :D

New Update is posted from yesterday's results. Lots of Bait and lure combos that work for various fish. Its no where near complete but now that the R50 quest is completed (and YES you do get the Halcyon Rod AND one piece of Fishing gear (not the shirt though) I should have a much easier time completing all the logs.

I can't log into the game this morning so the next update might be a bit, but PLEASE send me any info you have gathered so I can add it to the chart. Thanks!

(Also interesting to note their are a couple fish at any rate that are affected by weather and time of day ;) )

Here's what I have so far:

https://dl.dropboxuserco...F14%20ARR%20Fishing.xlsx

I'll probably do daily updates to it depending on what's going on. I'm primarily playing a new character with a friend of mine right now so I've been fishing when he's not around or catching up to me on quests.

Green means the fish is capable of being caught with that bait, while orange means it's used in a recipe.

Split Freshwater and Saltwater into tabs for my spreadsheet. It's making it easier to track and update baits for me.

Having trouble getting data for Floating Minnow on mid-level fish as the Harbor Herring and Moraby Flounder seem to overwhelm the bites.

If you fish at Halfstone in Western La Noscea, you can catch nothing but Saber Sardines with a Floating Minnow. There's no recipe for them, but the xp was pretty decent if you need a grinding spot. Around 1300 xp at level 22 and 5400 for a HQ catch, when only 71k xp needed for a level.

Brass Spoon Lure + Oakwood = Dark Bass all day long. Hard to test Brass Spoon Lure anywhere there's Dark Bass as that's what the majority of the bites are.

Everschade is a level 30 area. Can catch lots of black eel with butterworms and they give like 1400 xp at 25 and 5700 xp HQ. They're also used in a cooking recipe.

Level 27 at Empty Heart in Lower La Noscea yields a fish called a Grip Killifish. You can't catch these until 27 as you need a chocobo fly. 2300 xp per catch NQ, 9400 HQ. Should get a bite on these roughly 50% of the time. Better spot found at Moondrip in Western Thanalan. Level 45 fishing area but Chocobo Fly will yield the Grip Killifish 100% of the time. Need stealth!
