There's some discussion going on in the forums about "Unspoiled Nodes", those that grant the higher tier gathering materials. (darksteel, spruce, etc.)

http://forum.square-enix.com/ARR-Test/threads/104143-Gathering-Level-50-Nodes

The short of it is that nodes respawn at a set time every game day. They may or may not have a limit on how many people can gather from it at once; it could be that they're timed in how long they stay up.

Its not limited to first come first serve, the node pop's, you can gather from it, and once YOU have gathered its not available for YOU till the next pop time.

We've been discussing this in FC posts but when we were getting the Mandagora Minion for members we were able to have multiple people come to the node, get the minion, and when all gathering was done for that attempt the node didn't show till the next pop time, But all through that time it was available to those who could see it until they drained it

These nodes only go away for you until you gather from it or 3 eorzia hours after their pop time. Theres no competition to them. They'll also go away if you stop gathering at anytime before finishing them off.

Link edited in OP since beta forums are gone. I'm sure this information will be presented in a gathering guide soon.

I also just discovered, in a rude awakening kinda way, that the toil skills are not really neccissary to gather these "out of reach" items, and it just takes a few swings in the right spot to clear out the "weeds" so you can gather them normally.

Unsaid on how much 'a few' is tho... anyone here know?

Do the toil skills have anything to do with the unspoiled nodes at all?

I don't even know what the toil skills do...

Some things I've read said it usually only takes one swing to clear away the debris or w/e.

The unspoiled nodes start out with everything blanked out by green bars with "Out of reach" on each of them. The toil skills which cost 300 GP remove them all and reveal what is behind them so you can gather from them normally. The item's spots don't change either, so apparently as long as you remember the "Sweet spot" (1.0 memories) you can just start off by taking your swing without using the toil skill.

Well...the item spots dont change in Beta.....I could see SE flipping a switch for release that makes the items random in 'spot' for every node every time. Almost makes sense the more i think about it...avoids botting by not allowing people to target a set coordinate for a set resource every time.

I agree with that. Botters with bare-minimum GP are going to be able to have many field days with this. It also undermines the skill almost completely.

I doubt they'll do that. In the BTN tutorial text, it even says "For example, branches are always found in the third item slot!" (or something similar). At most, they might do it to the unspoiled nodes only, but I doubt it.

So I went to do unspoiled nodes today again and some like gold ore showed up at their right time but astral rock was already active before it's Eorzea start time and darksteel ore never showed up. Yes I had miner equipped and I checked other sites for the times and they showed it active but there was nothing.

Either they changed up the spawn times last maintenance or it's bugged. Someone else was asking about this as well in dragonhead.
