Here is the setup I used to catch these: R50 FishingLocation: The Salt Strand Bait: Northern Krill Gathering: 146 Perception: 139 NOTES: The bite is REALLY SOFT and much quieter than normal. The animation for reeling it in is a hard hit, followed by 2 pulls way off to the right side, then 2 pulls way off to the left side. Please post in this thread with your Fishing Level, Bait, and G/P amounts. Thanks! Edited by user Saturday, August 24, 2013 5:47:41 AM(UTC)

Also, I went through a stack of 99, fishing straight through (day, night) all weather, and I caught 14.
I realize its not the greatest metric of data, but that's what I got. Drop rate tanks at night and picks up in the day.

See that's hilarious I caught WAY more during the night and dropped off during the day. Its just a typical lvl50 catch, so it will be sporadic i thinks. Pretty easy to catch though.

Pretty easy to catch though. am pretty amazed that it turned out to be easy to fish, i must have been using a wrong bait other than that good job on finding its preferred bait man. on a side note i hope it doesnt end up being easy to catch for those who just love to bot to get easy cash :/

In the last live letter Yoshi said "However, due to the fact that this system is simple, please understand that you will not be contributing to the economy despite being a Disciple of the Land. The fishing system of FFXIV: ARR is there to have fun challenging and interacting with the nature found throughout Eorzea.
Any idea what that means? No selling to players? NPC prices very low?

I just LOL at yoshi. While straight up selling fish to NPC is no good (highest legenday fish sells for 36 gil to them, 33 for most and 26 for normal high-end fish) no one is going to get rich that way.
Since the Minion is transferable , it can be sold on the AH. On Excalibur they were posted for 500,000 gil or so. (Not that people are buying them but they are a collector item and people without fishing will want them...wont take long to have such supply though demand will taper off since its a one-off)
Its true you can't get shards/crystals from fishing or ALC synths from fish anymore, but their will be profit to be made with some of the cooking recipes that use fish. Bream, Daggers, and Mahi will be in good demand to make food that boosts Crafting stats (Control and CP gain) to be able to better HQ things.

Just pulled him up with Yumi, whilst shuffling through my baits and lure for an effective tool for black soles.
