well, a lot of people are starting out on non legacy servers, and with all the new changes, people are starting to level up quickly at the same time as locations/baits/fish/all that good stuff is still being figured out :)
but I thought we could at least give a little help to those leveling up :) my uber fisher is on a legacy server, but i've restarted a new character on gilgamesh.
I'm now lvl 29 fishing and did 25-29 at Everschade in central shroud using bass balls.
where should i head to next, and what bait to use? :)

Hit level 30 and then go to Costa Del Sol with Spoon Worms which the vendor there sells. It's fantastic until level 35.
I'm 36 and getting a lot of XP in Southern Thanalan doing sandfishing currently, and I envision it'll be good until 38-40ish. My problem is my fishing is outleveling my battle class by far (PUG 22), so I don't get any fishing levequests. Luckily I enjoy the grind.
Now if only we had some valuable fish that actually made this worth it =/

Yeah, the best route is probably go around and try to fill in your log some and try to find fish on your travels that will actually be desirable in the markets. Sharks seem to be one of those. Edited by user Sunday, August 25, 2013 6:55:41 PM(UTC)

I imagine one of the vendors in Southern Thanalan sell the bait specific to sand fishing. Not that I'd know since I can't log onto my 1.0 char or anything. :P |

Any thoughts on where I should go? I'm level 44. Kind of stumped at the moment. *Edit* Dune fishing is pretty sweet EXP at 44. If anyone was wondering, go to Camp Forgotten Springs. Edited by user Monday, August 26, 2013 2:41:50 AM(UTC)

On the western side of Coerthas is a small spot called Exploratory Ice Hole. I'd highly recommend it for working your way from 40 to 45. The catch rate's nearly 100%, and a bit better than a level an hour.

Because at lvl 30 I hit Costa and have been pulling in things worth less xp than the Grip Killifish I was fishing at Moondrip (not to mention they were caught on a lure, not spoon worms at 7g a pop).

If you go to North Bloodshore (just head a bit north of Costa del Sol along the beach) there'll be higher yielding xp fish there than at Costa del Sol or South Bloodshore. |

Found a new sweetspot for fishing in your 30's. I was at costa del from 25 to about 32ish, got bored and started to exploring areas that had 30 mobs. Right under Camp Tranquil in south shroud is several bridges connecting above Rootslake, conveniently away from the mobs below. Picked up a couple of silver spoon lures at the local merchant and Im now pulling fishes between lvls 30-38, with experience between 2200 and 4000(non HQ) with an occasional low level cray fish here and there. Been fishing for a while and havent lost a lure yet and gaining XP quite quickly. Edited by user Sunday, September 01, 2013 9:11:23 PM(UTC)

Also, off topic: I wish there was something better to do with most of these fish than vendor them for negligible gil. HQ Caravan Eels and other mooched fish should be worth more than that. Unless there are leves in the desert that I've missed, of course.

Unless there are leves in the desert that I've missed, of course. Something you'll want to watch is GC turnins. Several fish that don't have recipes associated with them can be turned in for xp (if you need it) and GC seals (which you'll probably need). If you can supply the total request with only HQ fish you'll receive a bonus to your xp and GC seals rewarded. I've seen Shadow Catfish (which is a mooched only fish) as one of the items before, so if you have the space you may want to hold onto your fish until it pops for you, or sell it to other people that need it. We used to have a really good GC turn-in list back in 1.0, but so far we haven't been able to put much research into this yet. I don't know if anyone has been able to determine a pattern or not as far as the turn-in items go. I do know that you receive different requests based on whatever level your crafting/gathering is though. |
