I'm a bit stuck on this quest. I haven't been able to land a Desert Catfish for the life of me. The level 35 fisher's quest says south of Byregot's Strike in Southern Thanalan. So far I've gone through almost 4 stacks of sand leeches with no luck. Right now I'm pushing level 39 and I'm starting to wonder if I'll hit level 40 trying to finish this level 35 quest. Has anyone had an luck dunefishing this fish out? If so, could you let me know if I'm missing something?

It's east, not south. Go to the ridge to the east, kind of under the area where across you can see Ixal people. On the map I believe it says the Segoli Dunes.

Well here's how foolish I am. I'm a Mod on this site and I sat there south of that camp fishing for hours. Then I thought well let's check DoL lol. (*&#%*&@@)($_%*(^#*% Wtf.. so the npc clearly says south but it's east huh. I even choc'd around looking for more fishing holes but the only way I did not go was west. Damn you SE!! lol. Thank you all. Bait can be bought at Forgotten Springs. The npc's hut is over in the weeds lol. It also says "The fishing hole at the Sagolii dunes is added to your fishing log. edit: So I finally caught one at the above location after 5 stacks of bait lol. That's one elusive fish even with my lvl 50 gear/rod on. Could of just bought it and I did that for some but I gotta explore man. Caught 2.

I had to register so I could say, thanks for this! I am almost 37 and was ready to jab my eyeballs out.
Could any one tell me, is it a hard bite or soft bite when I finally hook it?

yeah the NPC is wrong. I had to complete the fishing hole to realize the error. Once you find the right spot (east edge of the desert) you will get it in no time.
