Hi all I have finally gotten around to writing a guide for fishing. It is as much a compilation of information as it is a guide. I hope that it will contain information that could be helpful to you as you start out fishing. Let me know if you have any suggestions, corrections or additions to the guide. I can be found here: http://disciplesofthelan...om/GuideView.aspx?gid=21Cheers |

This guide is exceptional! I have one request though, would it be possible to have the maps portion of this site link to your guide somehow?
The reason is that when I am in-game and I alt+tab out to ensure I'm doing the right kind of fishing to fill in a "?" spot in my guide, I first go to the maps section and then mouse over the picture of this fish that I haven't caught yet. This produces a name, but doesn't give any further info (like level of fish, or what technique or bait is required to catch this fish).
It would be incredibly useful if clicking on the various fish then linked to a section in your guide that discusses that specific fish and how it is caught. Or perhaps the information could be automatically extracted from your guide using webserver tricks and then just display your info as a bubble on the map?
As an example I had to use the maps here, click on the location, and then mouse-over the fish to get a name. With the name, I had to then look up Blue Octopus using ffxivdb.com and then learned that I wouldn't even be able to catch that until level 25, when I can use mooch.
I suppose as an alternative the maps could link to ffxivdb, but the problem there is it would require permission and also any changes to ffxivdb would error out the maps posted here.
Once again excellent work, and thank you for your time!
[[[If you would like any help compiling data just respond to this thread with how people can help and I'll start documenting my experiences then on and maybe others would help as well.]]]

Hi Anonyshinobi...
What you are describing is certainly in the plans :D
I am currently working on making a page for all singe gathered items (and further down the line gathering gear and recipies) with loads of details like all location for that item and preferred bait, level etc.
There are currently a lot of things that I would like to implement and I am working on many different things at once but it will be made available as soon as possible :D |

Cool, looking forward to it. On a side note, it looks like river fishing has been entirely removed from the game as it pertains to the previous requirements for bait. I thought I was confused. but in your manual it does have the old crayfish ball description from phase4/open beta as well as your notes about it. I was able to use both bloodworm as well as crayfish ball here at the Rogue River. ~Regards

One other thing that I would add into this guide along with the type/level of bait is who you can buy it from. I sometimes get confused on who exactly has what bait for me to purchase from where. Otherwise, I love this guide. Thanks so much for putting it together, it was a big help for a first time fisherman.

This isn't complete by any means, but it has a lot of the locations you can purchase bait: http://www.disciplesoftheland.com/forum.aspx?g=posts&m=6061#post6061Sandfishing and Cloudfishing baits can be purchased in Forgotten Springs and at the Coerthas camps, respectively. |
