Sadly I kinda feel the same way. This might change as you start to level another class though, but so far I've saved all of my gear that I've had during my time leveling my THM (except for the weapons since they won't carry over) and plan to use it for CNJ and ACN down the road.
As for the other classes, because you will run out of sidequests pretty quickly, I planned on just doing dungeon runs and accumulating whatever loot I can for as many classes as possible so I'll have it available for use. This will further negate the use of purchasing gear.
Right now I feel that crafting is only useful for the following scenarios:
- HQ crafting/gathering gear (NQ gear can be purchased from NPCs) - High level weapons with double melds for relic quest - Accessories, as these seem to be pretty rare drops in dungeons. - Consumables (Elixirs, Food) - Furniture for housing (in the future)
Otherwise, with the Aetherial and Green gear that drops from dungeons, doesn't seem to be much point to purchase crafted gear unless you just are really unlucky with drops and desperately need an upgrade. |

i am really upset with the new system: - why you need HQ crafting/gathering gears? if many DOH/DOL don't really gather and craft. - high lvl weapons, you can get it from exchange system. that is better. also the materia system nurfed, no more spiritbond pt as before. - accessories: true, that might be some market, but basically only HQ. btw i got lots of those Aetherial accessories from leves chests
to me only ALC and CUL is useful, but right now less ppl eating food and taking drugs
currently i am still lvl up SMN, but will be boring again after 50. less contents to lvl 50 ppl than 1.0.

I haven't seen it that way before but I must admit that crafting has become much more enjoyable. I am currently doing class quests to get the top tools and it is so much fun. And people are constantly asking me to craft stuff or meld for them. So it may not be as useful but it sure is fun. At least for me :-) |

Oh from a fun standpoint I enjoy crafting in ARR much more than I did in 1.0. I like gathering a lot so it's something I'm going to do initially regardless of whether it's profitable or not. I haven't touched crafting yet as of retail but I'm more focused on getting through the main storyline right now, as I want to try to get into some of the endgame stuff. |

And like Forrest's mom said you never know what you can get from the chocolate box, something like that. ARR gathering system is boring, it is just a list and you know what you can get or not. it will encourage BOT to gather more.

Well, it needs to be more convenient than it was in 1.0. It's good to have the ability to go out and just gather what you need rather than putting in three more hours than you normally would to get the same amount of items. Lamp Marimo in 1.0 anyone? |

One thing that upsets me is the lack of understanding from some players. I had a BRD with Garuda's Bow actually send me a tell stating his bow was better than mine. Why? I do not understand. So I taught him the basics and told him to look at the stats of my bow.
My Sargna HQ with Critical IV and Determination IV Materia destroys all bows minus Relic/+1 and Allagan. Only bow that comes close is Mog Bow.
Ppl completely under estimate some of the old Class only/1.0 relic turn in crafted weapons. Which can now be used on Jobs.

The ilvl70 crafted gear is very strong and has good potential with materia melding. The downside is if you don't already have it from 1.0 (i.e. new players) it's easier to just go for gear you can buy with tokens or getting Primal weapons. The relic quest doesn't seem to be *too* bad compared to 1.0, so I think you could gimp along alright with Primal weapons until you get your relic. |

Only ppl I see buying them is ones with gil to burn at this point. With Keep speedruns (unless maintenance changes threat) its easy farming for Darklight and AF2.
