Has anyone else fished out every fish in the game? There's no reward for it but I guess bragging rights. I'm guessing I could debunk myths or answer questions. lol

Not yet, I still have a long way to go. I enjoy fishing, but character progression sadly takes precedence for me. It's almost like Yoshi-P said - Fishing is something for you to do when you have nothing better to do. Or when you're broke and need to make some money. :P

I guess the itch got to me quickly. I got my battleclass to unlock Umbra Isles and been fishing like crazy since. It has almost got me to a million Gil.

I am still very far from 100%. I have been focusing a lot on crafting and I also have to finish ny miner and botanist. When that is done I need to get some Dow classes up as having 28 as your highest class is very limiting. I really want to get my log to 100 but it won't happen until I have progressed further with the main story line.

Awesome that some of you have been able to do this. Congratulations :-D

It's like a weight off my shoulders. I feel like I could hook Garuda and reel her in with my fishing pole. I can only imagine a level cap increase in fishing would have me fishing out.

Hit 186/186 on the 21st of October, haven't fished much since. Still have B's in Dune/Skyfishing.

I'm beginning to plan for the achievement rod, trying to catch as many moneyfish I can in the process, so I've been trolling the Market Board for current prices. I really dislike that all prices are out in the open, the undercutters even go below NPC-prices, what's up with that? Not much of a market, if you ask me.

The achievement rod is going to be hell to get. Four thousand times? I think I'm a fourth of the way there. -_-

The +gathering stat determines whether or not you can land a catch.
The +perception stat determines what % of your catches are HQ.

Myths that need confirmation or debunking
+gathering affects bite rate or variety.
+GP affects bite rate or variety.
STR and DEX still affect fishing. (they used to in 1.0, but recent evidence seems to say they do nothing in 2.0)

If all those Myths are actually debunked, do we know if +gathering has a cap whereby you can catch anything in the game and more does nothing for you, or if perception has a cap whereby raising perception won't increase the percentage of HQ fish you catch?

Caps are only limited by what the gear allows you to put on + food effects. However, without any +gathering materia or food effects, a simple set of HQ fishing gear + hyclon rod has been sufficient to never once not catch a fish.

GP dosen't affect fishing in anyway.

Stats don't affect fishing anymore. non of the gathering gear has stats on them and you can't add stats from levels like your DoW/DoM classes.

Perception does impact HQ rates, but the entire HQ rate is so difficult to notice anyways. I have capped +perception materia to all slots on my fishing gear and even eating landtrap salads I've had runs of 100 catches with far more HQ's without all that perception than I have with. I'm not 100% convinced their RNG is working correctly as WAY TO OFTAN I see 99% gather chance on mining/botany come up with a fail, and WAY TO FEW 1% chance of HQ for crafting NOT succeed.

I guess one thing I can add is that having the best Fisher's gear alone is not a guaranteed 100% catch rate. I have the Halcyon Rod, Hamlet Puller's Hat HQ, Fisher's Shirt HQ, Fisher's Gloves HQ, Fisher's Gaskins HQ, Fisher's Wading Boots HQ, Raptorskin Survival Belt HQ, and even the Flamecarrier's Ring with GC bonus (+3 Gathering) and I still failed to catch what I can only assume was an HQ Megalodon, despite catching plenty of NQ Megalodons (I have 262 Gathering and 209 Perception). Very disappointing! So it would seem that melding materia to your Fisher's gear is not a complete waste of time even with the highest possible equipment. Eating food might have made the difference between success and failure too, of course.
