I had a look at the numbers from the DoL Log and how weather influenced whether or not fish bites...
So far there are 5259 fishing logs.
This is catches at the various weather conditions:
Sunny: 996 Windy: 883 Haze: 318 Lightning: 952 Rainy: 180 Sandstorm: 650 Snowy: 263 Cloudy: 1045
Of these the following is the number of "Nothing bites":
Sunny: 258 Windy: 350 Haze: 117 Lightning: 317 Rainy: 72 Sandstorm: 205 Snowy: 69 Cloudy: 336
This gives us the following stats on no bites:
Sunny: 26.70% Windy: 39.63 Haze: 36.79 Lightning: 33.29 Rainy: 40 Sandstorm: 31.53 Snowy: 26.23 Cloudy: 32.15
We have to be aware that sunny is the first weather condition on the list and could therefore be chosen by many who don't log weather conditions. Snowy has a very low count (and I think this is actually not the correct name for the weather as there is no snow in FFXIV?). But to me it looks like sunny is the best time to go fishing. Sandstorm is apparently also a good choice. Do something else than fishing when it's raining even though this is also badly documentet.
Once we get some more logs I will try to give you some new numbers and see if things have smoothed out or better information can be extracted. |

Wouldn't you know, the character that has the most problems fishing is the one I started in Gridania. It also just so happens to be raining all the time in Camp Bentbranch. Suddenly it all makes sense! |

"Rain, rain, go away. Come again some other day.."
I knew it! Whenever it's raining it seemed I had lower success.
Thanks for doing these, Kida. |

Not sure if this is a fluke but I'm getting excellent results in the rain at the moment. I'm rank 9 using Goby Balls at the northwestern most lake near Emerald Moss. It's raining, moon phase in the first quarter, and I'm staying near the shallow depths. I'm catching 1-3 crayfish just about every cast, missing or losing one every 15 or so. I know crayfish are about equivalent to pulling up a clump of dirt to most people but I'm fishing solely to level right now and they're good skill points. ^^
My gear: Tarred Fishing Hat (+1 Dex, +10 Perception, +3 Control) Ash Fishing Rod +2 (18 Gathering, 16 Output, 14 Scanning) Bronze Gig (8 Gathering, 7 Output, 9 Scanning) Cotton Doublet Vest (+2 Vitality, +2 Piety, +7 Gathering, +7 Craftmanship) Fingerless Sheepskin Gloves (+3 Output, +3 Control) Cotton Sarouel (+5 Gathering, +4 Craftmanship) Leather Crakows (+6 Output, +6 Mag. Craftmanship)
It's also just after the leve reset if that has anything to do with soft fatigue reset. |

Update: 12047 logs used Results from the logs: Sunny: 1270 Windy: 2206 Haze: 740 Lightning: 1843 Rainy: 339 Sandstorm: 1763 Snowy: 825 Cloudy: 3059 Of these the following is the number of "Nothing bites": Sunny: 395 Windy: 861 Haze: 252 Lightning: 671 Rainy: 129 Sandstorm: 588 Snowy: 269 Cloudy: 997 This gives us the following stats on no bites: Sunny: 31.10 (was 26.70)Windy: 39.03 (was 39.63)Haze: 34.05 (was 36.79) Lightning: 36.40 (was 33.29) Rainy: 38.05 (was 40)Sandstorm: 33.35 (was 31.53) Snowy: 32.61 (was 26.23)Cloudy: 32.59 (was 32.15)As with moonphases the numbers have changed but it seems to be less drastic. The best weather is now Sunny (it was pretty good before as well), Snowy (which was way better before) and cloudy (not much change). The worst weather to fish in is now windy and rainy which is also consistent with the early numbers. All in all these numbers seem to be reliable. With more than 12,000 logs this should give an indicator as to when it is best to fish. So if you have sunny weather go grab that rod and pull in some fish.
