I got my HQ AF. So I thought I try out to catch some silver shark. My HQ catching rate for Merlthor Goby seems awfull. Got about 80 NQ Merlthor Goby and only 12 Silver Sharks. I have 277 Gathering 229 Perception right now. Now I wonder if the HQ catching rate is really that low or the Materia makes a big difference. Which Materia did you guys put in? I still have some slots free, I'm propably not going for forbidden melds. EDIT: just noticed that Merlthor Goby is a lvl 3 fish... doesn't kinda make sense... yeah doesn't seem we have a dol materia guide for what's best. A decent read. As the google spreadsheet posted above states "* GP is not used in Fishing. Therefore, the 'Aetheryte Ring' is better suited because its gathering & perception max meldable stat caps are higher than the 'Raptorskin Ring'." However, there's a bit more to that story. Interestingly, if you want to truly maximize your fisher, you may actually be better off melding onto i70 accessories made with philo tomes. Materia caps are often based off of the iLv of the item, and since fisher doesn't care about GP, you're not limited to gathering-specific accessories. However, since I've never seen anyone test that, I don't actually know if they would have higher caps. Edited by user Thursday, February 27, 2014 8:33:15 AM(UTC)

Thanks. The information about the Aetherite Ring is interesting. If I see this right then I can use thre same bracelets, earrings and Necklace for all the DOL (except maybe if going for Ilvl70 stuff, personally to much of an overkill for me ^^). More then 500 GP seems useless for Miner and Botanist so it doesn't make sense to put GP Materia in there for any DOL. EDIT: The Excel Documen seems to have the wrong information about the Militia Bracelets. It lists the Maximum meldable Gathering as 3 but it's 4. Also the information about the Body Piece seems wrong, Maximum Perception listed is 4 but I got 6 on it. My Stats now on FSH: 310 Gathering 257 Perception. I would like to see what gear fishers are wearing + materia on here. I have been waiting to meld materia for my dol and doh until I can do it myself and I'm a few lvls from starting. Master Fisher's ring that just came out.. would of been nice to put a stat on there other than GP >.> Yeah I see the durability loss stat.. No materia slot >.> What is the "more to the story" Raldo regarding the rings. Do tell. Here was a previous post.. figured I'd put a link to it. more or less same info I think. http://www.disciplesofth....aspx?g=posts&t=1246.. geez took a ton of tries to get the 2nd hidden materia attached to my choker and then of course the 19% chance meld goes in first time. You should, in theory, be able to reach higher Perception/Gathering caps if you meld onto the i70 crafted accessories, since they're a higher iLv. They're not intended for DoL, per se, but since they're equippable by as all classes, you can certainly equip them on fisher. That said, I've not seen it done, nor attempted it myself, so I don't know what the caps are. It's entirely possible that the caps are the same (or even lower, since the accessories are not meant for DoL classes). The next point that helps you to pull off another skill would be 675. Which doesn't seemm to be possible to reach. So isn't that GP just a waste of a lot of money? Why does SE release a special ring for fisher with GP on it... wonder if there is some hidden thing to GP. Really can't see why SE would put GP on a fisher Item... For a similiar reason I stoped to put materia into my DOH pieces. I allready can HQ two start stuff 100% with NQ materials. There is no use in trying to put more materia in my equip. There is some argument for having 600GP, if you're aiming for HQ items out of an unspoiled node (you'd use the toil ability (300GP) and the HQ+30% ability (300GP)), but since most crafters these days don't actually care about HQ ingredients, most people don't care to hit 600 anymore. |

I asked him to chime in about needing materia for doh now and down the road. As we've mentioned before GP is not needed so your guess is as good as mine why Yoshi had them put that on there. Really useless but then going back to ffxi that doesn't surprise me. He already could care less about fishing so.. yeah. |

Are there any theories about what value of a stat is usefull? i know for str there are certain break points, if you reach that point adding any more STR is only usefull if you reach the next point else it's wasted.
Is there anything around like this in regards to DOH / DOL? Even bether, specific to FSH.
If not it seems pretty easy, Put in the highest possible Materia first, then the lesser ones for forbidden melds. Use Aetherite Rings (maybe ilvl70 crafted once) cause GP is useless.
I'm really starting to wonder if the ilv70 stuff is worth it. I allready have enough GP on my Miner and Botanist, so that could be a possability there too.
