So far i've got to 13 by doing leves at bearded rock til 7 and skull valley at 8-13 just fishing in the same spots as the leve's mostly, with a little time spent in aleport.

Now i'm at 13 mostly still been fishing south of skull valley getting, sea cucs, tiger cod, coral butterfly, etc. With fairly decent success to me.  been leveling cul, and giving sea cucs to LS for leveling alch, so it's going well, just wondering when i should plan to move to new location or what/where i should be fishing

I upgraded to ash rod at 8 and plan to upgrade to willow as soon as market update comes out, or i find one otherwise.  But what kind of bait should i be using? is there an advantage of using other than lugworm, and moth  yet?  when can i start fishing for dark bass? 18sh?

what should be my path to 20?

Thanks for any tips, and i'm trying to log all my fishing, nice having dual monitor for that ^^.

I don't know if this would be the BEST option but I would consider going to Horizons Edge and join the many other fishers there to get some dark bass. This is grade 3 water but not too difficult at your level and the skill ups are great. Also you will get some fish that are actually worth something.

Horizon's Edge is good for grade 3 as Kida mentions, but you definitely also want to go to Gridania and do some level 10 leves in Emerald Moss which is Grade 2 (watchout for those anglers). You can then pick up some level 20 leves for Tranquil Paths for Grade 3 (2 areas south of Gridania), where you can pick up some guild marks, if you're lucky, along with some random gathering gear from rewards or chests...not always guaranteed, but its always worth a try.

Yeah the anglers from what I've seen have been pretty much impossible to sneak by. Not sure at what other fighting job lvl you could switch to and kill them. Too many and they respawn pretty fast on top of you at the points even if someone is killing them.

Also Pyra I was curious are you saying he can attempt and finish lvl20 leves at his current level 15 or does he need to wait some? I'm not sure how close to 20 you need to be to start those myself.

good info guys. thank you.

Regarding Anglers & Roselets... RUN! You can soon easily kite them until they lose interest and waiting will also normally eventually get them out of your way. Also your pebble stun ability works. Be brave and use it! We have it relatively easy compared to the Botanists and their "go cut this tree in this tiny dead end with four Wolves in it." rank 10 leve there.

yeah I tried the outrun them thing and they do stop but most of those spots have 2 anglers on either side or if you run past one you eventually run into another and dont have enough room to zone them in a sense.

I've tried 3 times and even ran back and died or ran out of time. Got 1 spot but no way could get the others. Area too small with mobs around you. So I'm not sure how people are finishing this unless you can kill the anglers at a certain War or Mage level. That's why I'm trying to figure out at what level can the anglers be killed. Much easier that way.

I'll figure it out.  Die Anglers!

Use guild marks and purchase the ability Wavekin Eluder maybe? I show it is listed as Optimal Rank 30, but do not have it yet myself so not sure if it can be used before then or not.

At rank 8 I went to Drybone (Eastern Thanalan). Fishing at +4 there with just moth pupa has a very good rate of getting dark bass in schools. Also, there is only 1 pieste that wanders a bit you have to look out for, and it's easy to avoid.

Drybone is a grade 2 area so leves are doable for that extra boost. Once you get to around rank 14 or so, I would head to a grade 3 area.

My fishing results in drybone schools, counting depths +3, +4, and +5 (not counting lost fish, which are usually dark bass).

Ala Mhigan Fighting Fish: 5 (13.16%)
Crayfish: 1 (2.63%)
Dark Bass: 21 (55.26%)
Pipira: 8 (21.05%)
Striped Goby: 3 (7.89%)

Well my path was just doing leve's as I'm trying to get to 20 and almost 17 now. I tried my first two rank 20 leves tonight from Gridania:

Only the Monke Onke and Fishing Tranquil Paths. (about 13k gil earned) 1 chest with gil in it showed.  Both start at Camp Tranquil which is basically a straight path south from Gridania with no mob issues.

Was a lot easier than I thought. 1 Morbol or whatever they call it in this game but he was out of the way in a huge open area and then some Roselets but I outran 'em using dowse and they turned around. That was only going to 1 spot though. The rest of the spots for both leves I didn't have any mob issues.

I used Moth Pupa's for both and it worked fine. Just figure out your route there to the lake beforehand. I'll have to hit up that lake for regular fishing in grade 3.

are you talking about the two "Creek, crick" whatever you call em that run through the large rectangular areas on the path south of tranquil? it's grade 3.  i just started there this morning only for about 15 minutes though. a lot better xp, not as many catches, but still good xp getting bites

I tried Quarrymill (east end of Tranquil Paths). You can fish on the bridge there. It's grade 3, no school. I'm rank 14 fisher. I was pretty regularly pulling in river crabs and black ghosts.

yeah that's a spot in the rank 20 leves. pretty good fishing in that area that's easy to learn your way around and what mobs that do aggro to avoid by doing the 2 leves available for Tranquil.

sitting at R19, took some time off fishing to get con and thm to 10 as well as get alch up to 12 gsm almost 10, and some crp again, along with my regular cooking. I have been spending most of the time at horizon getting D.Bass just continue in the Grade 3 spots at 20? or is that when you look for Grade 4? Or is it better to wait till early 20's before starting grade 4?

I wasn't able to start pulling up fish in Grade 4 consistently until about Rank 21.  This is with gear decked out towards gathering and a Willow Fishing Rod.  I didn't actually get a Bamboo Fishing Rod until 21 because I didn't know if the stat decrease for being under the optimal rank would actually make it worse than the Willow or not.

I was doing leves especially the rank 10 and 20 leves where you have to catch x3 of a certain fish for the sp/xp etc.

Other than that up to 20 I fished mostly the pond north of Camp Horizon. Once I hit 21 I ran to the pond south of Nophica's Wells.. which is far south of Horizon 36/18 or something like that. Just be aware of the few ants on the way. It's grade 4 and I was catching everything except the bone and crimson crayfish.

I used crow fly, moth pupa, spoon lure and they all worked. 137-150ish skill points and 500-560ish xp pts compared to 110sp/420xp at the Northern Pond same lvl, bait catching dark bass.

Also a few spearfishing and logging pts but I only got 2 whacks at 'em. No aggro at the pond. Just goats who think my ass smells good.

I am catching fish though quite often here. I didn't try Grade 4 at lvl 20 Fishing so idk how it would of fared. I'm wearing my full fishing gear and I use Bamboo but idk to what degree that matters at my lvl for this spot.

Some chick here at lvl 31 fishing naked with just her bamboo catching fish right and left. lol. I am gonna find new grade 4 spots. Once I hit 20 I started looking around more for grinding areas. sent you a pm.

This girl is using a chocobo fly and catching the bone and crimson crayfish.   hehe.. I just hit 22 here.

I think I was able to catch bone crayfish in my low 20s, probably 21 or 22 without too much problems.  I only got nibbles on crimson crayfish until about Rank 27 when I started getting bites on them with the occasional catch.  At Rank 28 now they're biting a lot more and way easier to pull in.  I also upgraded to the Rank 27 gathering gear.  :)

I still fish naked. Well, I've got the starter gear that I haven't repaired in ages. Until I see some numbers I don't want to waste time buying and repairing gear that may or may not improve my fishing success.

yeah I fish naked t... oh in the game.. oh oh nvm. lol.

well one thing about these kinds of games is I always dig new armor, gear. I got used to repairing gear in White Knights. It's not like this completely but fishing gear for the most part is very easy to repair on your own and cheap once you have the right crafting lvls.

lol skiz.. your problem man is you don't do anything else except fish! XD I wouldn't want to damage gear either and have to pay to get it repaired by npc or someone else. It's not that high lvl of crafting you need either. Maybe for rattan and yew rod and of course after they raise the lvl cap but to me that's part of the fun.

With just fishing and no new gear you should have a truckload of gil saved up. You don't wanna play the game in your old dirty, smelly lvl 1 stitches do ya forever? lol. stinky taru! cmon man.. buy some new underwear and deodorant at least.
