This might be hard to read as its copied from an excel file, so I'll explain the formatting here. Every fish has 1-3 slots that can contain an item, and as far as I've been able to tell, this is something that never changes for any given fish.

Typically, the first slot is some sort of miscellaneous item, usually fine sand but sometimes something else. The other two slots are always a shard or crystal, if the fish has a second or third slot.

The second slot has always been a water shard or crystal as far as I've been able to see, but the third slot can be any type of shard, depending on the fish. Dunefish seem to give earth shards, for example, while skyfish give wind crystals.

There are a few other weird ones I've noticed, but I wasn't recording data at that point so I'll have to reconfirm.
I should also add that all this data was tested on a minimum of 5 fish, often more.

In any case, the format is as follows: Fish Name, Fish Level, First Item Slot, Second Item Slot, Third Item Slot, followed by a list of possible items for the first slot.

Fish Name Level Slot One: Slot Two: Slot Three: Item 1 Item 2 Item 3

Grip Killfish 32 Misc Item 1-2 Water Shard N/A Fine Sand Cinnabar Red Pigment

You can also get a single venture coin from them, but it's rare. I got a coin twice out of maybe twenty DEs.

South Seas Talisman..

Yesterday I saw something happening at MB.
Someone was buying green fishies for 100k-500k.
At least 4 Gigant Sharks bought for 500k each.

Link to he's character info tells something:
http://na.finalfantasyxi...stone/character/3757643/

Hopefully this means improved fish sales!

So desynthing isn't all that bad actually for culinarians/fishing. Getting multiple shards, etc. I see some that was posted above which I didn't see >.>

Remember you can view your desynth lvl under each craft/doh in your classes tab. Use the desynth ability/icon and not directly choosing an item from your inventory like I did at first >.> Much faster. Example shows in my ss below.

by the way if you're ever on excalibur anyone you can come visit our FC house. Always there. We are in the goblet/thanalan > brimming heart house 19. CR FC. It's open house too and so our some of our members personal rooms. I haven't bought one yet but we have choc stables and gardens and crafting stations and blah blah lol.

I went and desynthed the thousands and thousands of fish I had stockpiled, and got my desynth up to 94 currently and am grinding Sovereigns for that delicious Pareo rare desynth. With all that desynthing, I can give some general guidelines on how fish desynthing works:

All fish, without exception, have a default desynth of 1 Fine Sand, that is occasionally replaced with something else. Starting with fish at a level of around 20-21, you will also get a guaranteed Water Shard from every fish along with the Fine Sand/misc item. Around level 30 the fish start giving 1-2 Water Shards per desynth. At 40 or so, they start giving 1-3 Water Shards. At 45+ they give Water Crystals, and 2-star fish will give 1-2 Water Crystals. I have desynthed every 2.2 big fish, and none of them ever gave clusters, and I doubt any of the new 2.3 big fish do either.

All dunefishing fish will also give a guaranteed Earth Shard/Crystal along with the Water Shards.

All skyfishing fish will give a guaranteed Wind Crystal along with the Water Crystals. There are no skyfish below level 45, so you cannot get Wind Shards from skyfishing, sadly.

All fish have a chance to desynth into a Clear Demimateria instead of a Fine Sand. The grade of the Clear Demimateria depends on the level of the fish, with level 1-25 or so giving Clear Demimateria I, level 25ish-50 giving Clear Demimateria II's, and the only fish I have seen give Clear Demimateria III's are the 2-star fish.

Also, many fish will desynth into pigments that are close to the color of the fish itself. Some fish, instead of pigments, will desynth into Dark Matter ("dark" fish like Dark Bass, Assassin Betta's, etc). Other fish will desynth into clear Glamour Prisms instead, and these are usually no-color, off-color, many-color fish. Fish I have observed giving Prisms are Ocean Clouds, Glass Perch, Four-eyed Fish, Monkfish, Knifefish, Goldfish, Coelecanth, Silver Sovereigns, but there are probably many others). The grade of the matter and prisms is also related to the level of the fish, with higher level fish giving higher level prism. Silver Sovereigns were giving me grade 4 Glamour Prisms.

Fish with some sort of elemental affinity will also give additional shards besides water shards, much like how dunefishing gives earth shards and skyfishing gives wind crystals. These fish I have observed giving an additional shard alongside the water shard, but there are probably others I missed, forgot to record, etc:

Black Ghost - Lightning Shard
Bronze Lake Trout - Fire Shard
Thunderbolt Sculpin - Lightning Shard
Boltfish - Lightning Crystal
Judgment Staff - Lightning Crystal

Some fish, instead of the Fine Sand/Clear Demimateria/Pigment/Dark Matter/Prism, will occasionally give some amusing thing usually related to them. These are sometimes pretty rare, so there are probably many interesting desynths I have yet to see, especially on harder to catch fish. These are the ones I've noticed:

Faerie Bass - Brass Spoon Lure
Copperfish - Copper Sand
Mudcrab - Mudstone
Shadow Catfish - Tree Toad
Plaguefish - Bone Chip, Soiled Femur
Spotted Pleco - Silver Sand
Grip Killifish - Cinnabar
Bonytongue - Sunstone
Whitelip Oyster - Pearl
Silverfish - Silver Sand
Giant Bass - Sinking Minnow
Trader Eel - Allagan Bronze Piece
Loyal Pleco - Electrum Sand
Blacklip Oyster - Black Pearl
Archerfish - Snurble Fly
Agelyss Carp - Allagan Bronze Piece
Sludgeskipper - Weak Blinding Potion
Boltfish - Eye of Lightning
Goldfish - Gold Sand
Coeurlfish - Brass Ring (no idea why XD)
Shall Shell - Pearl
Gigant Octopus - Rosewood Lumber (again, no idea on this one)
Takitaro - Zircon
Silver Sovereign - Venture
Goldenfin - Venture

Also, all dunefishing fish seem to occasionally give Mythril Sand, which I believe is because Mythril Sand/Ore is mined in the Sagolii Desert. And while my sample size of big fish is small, I am willing to believe any big fish may desynth into Ventures.

And last but definitely not least, it seems some big fish can desynth into various super rare bikini-wear vanity items. Silver Sovereigns and Gigantsharks are the known ones right now. I have yet to get this to happen, but it seems to be the case, and I am trying hard now to get a few.

That is excellent information and much appreciated. Lol so that bikini theory I read was right. Gonna tweet this out as well.

Huh.. I didn't realize you could click on a doh class and it would bring up this desynth window:

Looks like I need to get my fishing gear up to par. Gonna be fishing Sovereigns and Mahis for the foreseeable future.

I sold a couple Glimmerscales for 20k each the other night trying to spawn the S rank in Western Thanalan. Managed to level my desynth from 0 to 60 last night, so I guess I'm gonna focus on getting my Forager Rod and updating my gear with the Dodore stuff.

I'm optimizing my fisher gear also at the moment, so just a note that Dodore gear isn't optimal for Fisher as Kida mentions in his excellent gear guide.

Desynthesis Endgame Guide

http://forum.square-enix...esynthesis-Endgame-Guide

This also includes the big fish for the swimwear and cloth.

Speaking of desynths.. I was under impression the foragers hat could desynth into
fieldcraft demi III as well as possibly mastercraft.

This is a must read:

Guide: How To Lock Desynth Level and Choose What Skill To Delevel

http://forum.square-enix...se-What-Skill-To-Delevel

I am looking for a more simplified explanation on certain doh crafts delvling while you lvl up another.. for example I have culinarian at 65 desynth and weaver at 15, bsm like 4. Both wvr/bsm will sometimes delvl and quite a bit 0.1.. minimal when I desynth fish using culinarian.

So.. how do I stop these from delvling or in my case I want wvr to not delvl while I push culinarian to 100. I want both of those at 100.

The link I posted above.. I mean I'm not stupid lol but it's just really freaking wordy like someone was on a lot of coffee when they wrote it and seems they are providing examples from the point of view of someone having multiple doh at 100 desynth already which doesn't help me.

Did I read it right that every 4 deynth synths you need to switch to the doh you don't want to dlvl and do a desynth for that one? So every 4 fish I desynth I need to switch to wvr and desynth something to lock it in? I hope that's not the case.

You don't actually have to switch to another class for desynth.... Just desynth an item form another class. Example: You can stay on CUL and desynth stuff from GSM.
But you have to do this with at least every 4th item.
CUL, LTW, GSM, GSM, repeat (a botched desynth, doesn't count, so just ignore those, I also think it doesn't count if there are no skill ups.)
I'm allready doing this to not get those freaking random 0.1 losses that happen before you reach the cap.
I'm at GSM 75.8, LTW 72.36, CUl 81.79

How about the Vanya silk Hat lining, Robe lining etc?
I didn't try it with those, but the counter parts from LTW and GSM works. Depending on the prieces and your desynth chances it could even make you money.

I had to do some serious house cleaning so I made room and rotating desynths for 3 crafts so I'm not losing skill pts anymore. Finished up my Bot forager tool so on to the new dol tools.

Found this spreadsheet for fish desynthing. Sorry if this was already posted somewhere. This is really nice.

https://docs.google.com/...dit?pli=1#gid=1604725553

Also, this from xivdb and it's done wonders for Octo's. Only mooched blue octopus so far and Octo's of course.

"if u are well geared. ignore all other baits.. Use the Pill Bug Bait.. it has the highest catch chance of harbor herrings which mooches into Octomammoth. All other baits.. floating, sinking minnows, lugworm, rat tails have too much a diluted chance of catching the moochable fishes. (more anchovy, shrimps and kelps than mooch targets)"
