Blah, failed it.. Oh well.

I don't think the Bamboo is cutting it at this rank. I got lucky and caught one jade marimo (1 of 3), but had Way of Plenty active, and I tired'd it out on the first jig. It took two times to tire it out and I finally reeled it in on the last jig. So without Way of Plenty active AND landing it on the first jig, that sucker is going to be near impossible to catch with this rod. It did give 688 fishing SP though ($_$).

Have you tried playing around to get the rattan recipe yet? My guess would be rattan lumber, cedar lumber, silver hook/wire/reel and linen bowstring. Playing around with the six basic ingredients is what found the bamboo recipe for me, I just don't really have the incentive for this one at this point.

Grats for making it this far!  I kinda wish I had stuck with my original plan and just kept fishing, but other things have taken my attention away.

For Rank 40 leves I imagine it's time to move up to the Rattan Fishing Rod, but somehow I doubt anyone is capable of making it yet.  Might be 1 person per server MAYBE.

Great job getting this far! May I ask what your stats are?

I ask this because from the beginning I dumped all of my points into DEXPIE and I was able to fish Grade 5 waters at rank 15 with a Willow Rod/Crow Fly. I was pulling up Lava Frogs with no problem.

My gear is also pretty good, but I had the feeling it was because of the stats. Maybe the leves are a lot different. My DEXPIE was at 61 last I checked; I am nowhere near as far as you are.

35? lol damn man. I fish a lot and I'm just hitting 20 but I craft a lot too. Grats on the new leves. I'm interested in that Vulture fly as well.

The only thing I've read is that if you are trying nodes or spots that are a much higher grade than you it will wear down your equipment much faster. Usually for instance I found a grade 5 botany node and it only gave me 1 chop and my hatchet took a beating.

I'm still trying to find some confirmation that dex/pie affect fishing. The leves are different because you can't start certain leves until you hit a particular level so you will always be able to do those leves once it's offered to you. But like above if you try it the first level it's offered it might be a little tough or it could be the gear/rod like Skiz pointed out.

Even if you manage to fish up something in a much higher node at a lower level/rank I would stick to much closer grades.

Just completed both at 35 with a Bamboo. Use a Floating Minnow, wait for a bite then jig in the middle.

I haven't tried any recipes yet, but maybe I will soon.

I have 95 DEX and 95 PIE. I put all stats into those, with just a few into VIT.

Thanks Fredz, I forgot about using a saltwater lure for freshwater leves and vice versa. Tried it, and recieved my Vulture Fly and 2000 guild marks. :) The Jade Marimo one was still a little bit tricky, but I finished it with only 1:58 to spare.

I failed horribly on the Jade Marimo one today (1 of 3). I lost out on 2000 guild marks and a Topwater Frog lure. Ugh, was not happy.

On a happier note, I have two rank 30+ carpenters in my linkshell that are working on the Rattan Fishing Rod recipe. Hopefully it will be mine in the next couple days.
