I wrote this on my other ls forum from ffxi for those who play 14 now as some just do not know about ffxivpro and YG.  I am not trying to replace this site for anything but I've had way too many people.. not in this ls.. but random tells and my other friends who just can't find armor, mats, etc.

It's long but if you are not aware of the 2 sites I mentioned above they can possibly help you find something much faster.  If this is not appropriate to post on here then please remove Kida.  Most of us know these sites but not all.

Look.. I know the Wards are a mess right now and I don't know if they'll get better or worse after next update but for now do this if you do not already:

First goto www.ffxivpro.com

make sure you have Wutai selected as your server top left of the page I think

enter your item you are looking for and then on that item page check to the right for bazaar's and people selling on Wutai. It will show other servers as well.

Take note if they list their retainer name and what ward they are in. Sometimes they do not just the city. You can also try msging them in game.

Also take note on other servers what wards people are in for certain items. I know we only have 1 retainer for now but it might help you to find your item on Wutai.

if you don't find anything useful on that site there is a link for the Yellow Gremlin website or YG. For instance on this page if you look at the words Canvas Hat Blue and then go straight down you will see:

Click on YG and it will take you to their site.

Make sure you have Wutai selected at the top right kinda where it says Display Server.

Scroll down to the very bottom and if anyone is selling that item on Wutai it will say Selling and then a number for how many people like on this page:

That's pretty much how I find my items/mats or I just look around which takes forever or I make my own if I can. Sometimes the retainers are there.. sometimes they have moved or not being used. It's hit or miss but it's faster this way.

Other than that I can pretty much tell you that if you want something you need to do leves and lvl up crafts especially since they do not affect your battle/field leves.

Also, crafting helps tremendously to repair your own armor very cheap. I stock up on repair mats and store 'em on my npc till I need 'em or take a stack with me to fight or craft.

If none of this helps above then the last resort is to try to find the right ward and start browsing until they give us multiple retainers so items are not so spread out in the wrong wards.
