I've been reading through some of the fishing forum posts today and it seems as though a few people would like there to be a "leve school" checkbox in addition to the normal "school" checkbox for fishing. They were testing out various baits in order to help isolate the leve target fish, and noticed there are some fishies you can only get using the wrong type of lure on a leve, where you couldn't get them using the wrong type of lure outside of a leve in the same area. Also like some of them said this would be useful for isolating certain fish if you knew what type of malm kelp/crawfish replacement it would bring up for you, even if it only worked for 20-30 minutes.
Used in conjunction with a note field this could prove to be very useful, so people could note the name of the leve they were on and the coordinates of the fishing spot, since it may vary from leve to leve. A drop-down box listing leve names may also be handy, in addition to a coord field, but this may be an easier fix until that could be implemented.
I've also noticed personally that I get some strange tree cuttings for the area I'm in when I'm on certain botany leves. I can't remember the name of the exact one at the moment, but there's one in Skull Valley where I can only get mistletoe, Gridania walnuts, and walnut logs/branches when I'm on the leve. I didn't want to add those to the log when I was doing the leve since it seemed uncharacteristic for the area and would provide faulty data. Just a simple leve checkbox could solve that problem so people would know you *can* get those items in that area, but you need to be on the quest first.
I don't have any experience with mining leves and getting different items but I would assume it works for that also. :) |

At the moment I am working on the maps and I have a feeling that I will implement the logging with the maps. I could add a checkbox for "I am doing leves" and then people would be able to add the information that was needed in this case. Also when checking this a dropdownbox could appear with the leves of the area.
I will have to think this one through and see how it would work best. I am not sure what information could be gotten from this... are we interested in knowing where the items of leves can be obtained? This is pretty much given as the map indicates where to go.
Logging the information about bait / lures while on leves won't really add the information to the database either... then we should rather have information on leves and make some notes and suggestions as to how they are best solved.
Maybe I misunderstand the need (or the point) but I can't really see how it helps the user if they are able to log that they are on a leve. If people want this I will of course add the option... I just don't really see the point. Help me out :D

I think his idea is to log catch rates when on a leve that requires a specified fish. This way people can pick the best bait/depth for that leve.
Since leve fish aren't really fish, they aren't in the item database (and I'd prefer them not to be). They would have to be in the database to be selectable. It would be possible to add a generic item "_levefish" and use that for all leves. Since each leve is in a different area, you could still seperate it by levequest when looking at rates. This would keep database cleaner.
I believe this info may be best suited in a forum post under fishing guides. There are only (after late-November update) 15 different leves requiring specified fish. Edited by user Monday, October 25, 2010 3:13:03 PM(UTC)

I don't think it's necessary to show where on the maps the leve items are, since (as you said) the leve itself will show you where to go if you're on it... and you can really only get those items if you're on the leve anyway. The idea of a drop-down box appearing if you check "I am doing leves" is nice. :) It would keep information selection to a minimum and prevent some errors that way I think.
It also seems a specific bait isn't necessary to add while on fishing leves, as anything that's the wrong type of bait will yield you that targeted fish. So any saltwater bait will work in a freshwater area for leves, and vice versa.
But yes certainly the main point as Fearsyth said would be to target the leve fishies themselves.
I'm not very sure how databases work other than inputting my info into them, so if a forum post gathering the info would turn out to be cleaner then by all means we could do it that way. :) I think in the long run this would probably be easier for people trying to look up the information as well.
Cortez has already started a thread regarding the other part of the request, listing what type of fish you get using the wrong type of bait while on a leve so everything could be consolidated there. |

I'm Mining/Botany rather than fishing, but the same general rules seem to apply across all of the disciplines. Here are some reasons for having the checkbox in the database rather than making a separate forum post for them:
While on a leve I can mine a spot 5 times before having to move on. I'm currently a level 25 miner, mining grade 4 spots, so when not on a leve, I can only mine the spots 3 times.
While on a leve, with Guardians Aspect active, I get increased points and exp for each successful excavation. This would tend to make a mess of the validity of the database if leve is not checked.
The same spots used for the leve quests can also be mined by people not on the quest, although they may get different items. Also, I suspect that the leve turns on the "easy" button, allowing lower levels to mine items they wouldn't normally get so easily. Witness the ability to catch fish using the wrong lure for example.
Some of the leve spots are hidden - in Nophica's Wells they are all inside caves which means finding the cave entrances too, while most of the regular mining spots are outside. Adding cave entrances to the maps would be a great help since some of them are not obvious!
