just wondering who has moved onto grade 5 catching things somewhat consistently (not dozens of no bites), and what you are using and where :)

bait, location, level, rod

we really need more people to use the DoL Log to get more data!

Using Chocobo Flies in Halatali with a Rattan, I only get Black Ghosts, Ala Mhigans, and Crayfish. Velodyna Carps bite, but I haven't had any luck reeling them in yet so I haven't added them to the log.

the data during your fishing is important too, not just the one "big fish" catch hehe

it's good to log each cast for a good hour or two hours at a new spot so we can see what it does, with different lures, etc.

it'll show %'s of how things are.  no bites with certain lures, or level, weather, etc.  all that data is important

Non-fatigued you be getting the 130-150 SP rewards, which is as good as it gets outside of leves! There is that beach and you can also fish off of the cliffs right by Camp Bald Knoll to the South West. Also Camp Iron Lake (the lake to the NE of camp) is a really good freshwater alternative (dark bass, Crimson crayfish, MAiden Carp, LAva Toads). In Halatali all the pools inside the mountains are Grade 5 but I found the fishing really dull (Fighting fish, black ghosts, bone crayfish & Verdana Carp).  In Gridania Id like to know if there is a proper grade 5 fishing area, outside of a couple of streams I found.

If you are struggling with Grade 5 and are at 31, the moment you hit 32 you will do soooo much better. Skilling off of Grade 5 at 31 isn't a good idea. Grade 4 at that time is going to be a grind (100 SP per )but you'll be catching fish. Rank 31 was the worst slog yet.

Do those streams have spearfishing at all?

There is no fishing that I could find in the Treespeak grade 5 area, but I hadn't walked over to the other side to try those nodes yet.

My Grade 5 bite and catch rate are excellent at 33 with late 20's gathering gear and a Rattan rod. Its even better tonight with the Waxing Gib phase going.
