In regard to "The fish got away" or "You lost an (insert fish here)", I have been selecting Item Lost within the log.

The more I think about it, it seems like Item Lost may refer to lost bait?

If I should be using Nothing Bites instead of Item Lost, please let me know.

I understand the confusion as this part of the log is not quite as it should be. I am currently working on a new version of the log that utilises the maps for more accurate information on location. I hope to revise the way everything works in order to make it as intuitive as possible. I also have some ideas for letting people get better information on the effect of depth.

Oh an welcome to the site by the way... Great to have yet another person dedicated to DoL :)

I never really answered the question... Don't worry to much about it right now but the idea is to use Nothing bites only when nothing bites as this will give us information on wether or not something bites. Of something gets away it can be due to lack of concentration, skill or other factors.

Kida..

I figured out a pretty manual (right now anyway) way to parse logs and pull out fishing data.

Does it matter if log entries are posted one after another? Or is the timestamp in the DoL log considered important?

I figure the only thing this wont really help with is weather, since that is not recorded in a chat log.

Well the time stamp is not important. We would like to have information on weather and moonphases (guess these aren't recorded either) but would much rather have logs without this information than no logs.

As you may have read I am currently working on a new log that should help ease the process of entering logs in the system.

this one seems to be ok.. but the moonphase thing is what you really have to keep an eye on.

what if you had an option for no moonphase as a default? could weed out the people who dont ever want to change it. however.. some might just set it on sunny and leave it there anyway :(

anyway.. cant wait to see what you come up with :)

You are right... you should be able to have "not choosen" for moonphase and weather as this will make the results wrong if people just choose some random weather or moonphase.

Have to remember this :D
