Interesting. Being that you caught these from a school (since they don't bite normally in Cedarwood) can you confirm whether you're capable of catching these in this quantity in an open fishing area?

I'm wondering if this is just a quirk with the school, an ability that you have that you didn't mention, or that there's the possibility of catching more than three fish at a time of higher level fish whether they're in a school or open water.

I just went back to cedarwood to fish the schools again. i got 9 blowfish and only 2 herring.

I currently have these abilities loaded: way of plenty, nature's bounty, veteran trade, and master of fish.

unfortunately when i caught the 4-5 at one time, i don't remember abilities going off.

over the next few days i'm interested in testing it out further to see what the results are.

*edit
oh and the only spot i've gotten the blowfish and herring is on that little island through the cave just east of the cedarwood crystal. once you are down on the lower elevation at the dead end of the island, that is where the school is.

Indigo Herring haven't been reported as being catchable in Grade 5 or 6 open waters yet, so I think that's when the real test will come into play. I'm not high enough to test these waters yet so I'm not even sure if they're able to be caught in a non-school or not.

I have caught Indigo Herring in open waters on the beach north of Bald Knoll (Grade 5). They arn't the most common (was using sinking minnows at the time, but i think spoon lures would work good too) and was able to fish up a stack of them over a hour or so (Was trying to see if blowfish would bite in open but never got one there).

Assuming these work the same way as BTN/MIN, you should be able to get up to 10 at a time.

Heh yeah, these are the new indigo herring used for the Hamlet turnins. They should be able to go up to 10.

They're only found in Schools of Fish. I'm not sure if "the pos" is referring to that or not.

I seem to also recall someone saying they're only found on either the north or south schools, but it looks like you've covered that.

Take note, there are two different types of Indigo Herring, as such this topic was initially started for the old ones (long before hamlet came out).

(new ones have now been renamed to Young Indigo Herring, but still confuses many people as when they were first released, were called Indigo Herring, same as the old ones. One way to check which you have, is open the use menu (where you eat food, use potions, crafting manuals etc. if the herring shows up there, it is the old style herring used for crafting. Whereas if it does not show up in that list, you have the Hamlet provisioning item.)

The hamlet ones are found south of Bald Knoll, in schools on, and you can catch up to 10 in a single cast. Also, they can be found in all three schools to the south of Bald Knoll, but take care as the third school to the south is up on higher ground, and past many toads (stealth is needed to be used unless someone is killing them all). I recommend setting your home point at Bald Knoll, fishing all three schools (starting at the one closest to Bald Knoll), and then simply returning, as this saves a few minutes for each cycle of schools, since you don't have to use stealth to get away from the toads.

The older style are found in Cedarwood (grade 4), in one school, and one school only. It is located directly east of the aethereal gate (through the cave, over the bridge, down the hill, over the second bridge--there is a spear fishing spot down there, on the map, looks like a little island/peninsula.) These herrings are used for crafting such as alchemy and cooking. IIRC these cap at 8 per cast (again stupidly high, but that is due to being only found in one school in the entire game).

Happy gathering!ThumpUp
