A new log has been made and today it went live. The new log should be a lot easier to use as it is based on the resource maps we have made for Final Fantasy XIV (read more about the maps here) and remembers the settings of the user. This means that information on grade and location no longer need to be entered as this is given already when a resource point is chosen. Information on tools and rank of the different classes of the user is also remembered adding to the ease of logging the items you find.

The main purpose of the log is to locate all the items in Final Fantasy XIV and build a database and map that can help anyone find exactly what they need to find. Other purposes of the log is to decode the information about depth, moonphase, weather and so on so we through analysis can find out when the most opportune moments for gathering in FFXIV are.

You are also able to export all the logs you do to a file making your own deductions and analysis.

You can find the new log here

All you have to do is click on a resource point and your choices will be intuitively presented to you depending on the type of resource point you have selected. You will find information on the items, their rank and their sweet spots. This information will be displayed at the side of the map along with a link to logging this node.

If you want to log your information press the link and a popup box will appear with the log.

You will see a list of available items at the given point. If the item you have obtained is not on the list a dropdownlist will provide you with all possible items that could be at the location. If the item is not on the second list please go here to report a missing item.

As we still miss information about a lot of resource points in Final Fantasy XIV the one you want to log may be some missing. If you find that you are in need of a resource point not on the map please go here to report missing resource point. I will have a strong focus on newly requested resource points in the time to come and will add as fast as I can.

When you start logging you will have to fill in the information needed. You do not necessarily need to add all the information. Weather, Moonphase, Quality, Depth/Aim/Cut and SP are optional. So if you just want to add information about an item this is possible and the log will then not be used for stats on the mentioned information. We would much rather have a log with information on item only than no log at all BigGrin

I really hope that you will give this new log a chance and help out with mapping the items of the game. If we all pull together as a team we should be able to get a great and unique resource that will benefit all. If you have any questions, corrections, additions or similar please feel free to send me a pm. I am open to suggestions and will always listen to criticism.

The found nothing button is causing me problems. I don't know how to explain other than I have to re-click the node and reset all the values in order to proceed after selecting and clicking submit to nothing found.

I have just tried to upload a new version. Let me know if problem persists. If it does I would like to know what browser you are using as I got it working on IE 8 and Chrome.

Awesome new log, Kida!

The only problem I see is when I have 'Sandstorm' selected, in the logs in says Weather: Snowy after I have added the log.

Not sure if the other ones are switched like that, but that one for sure is.

Great work Kida. With the previous log it could get annoying using the dropdowns. But this new log is friggin excellent. Love being able to just click, click submit.

If sometime it can be made so that you can click on a fish and it lists the top 10 locations and top 3 baits and depths at each location it would be even better. But as you have it now its a great improvement and I am using it alot more than the old one!

Got all my finals done so I'll be able to get on FF more!
Got a chance to test out the new log for a little bit tonight, and I have to say I really like it, good job Kida :D One thing though, maybe i didn't see it but is there a way to edit what you recorded like in the old recorder?

Nice job on the new map/log layout, looks great!

I've used it for a few hours today, here's some of the things I've found:

Once a location is selected, could we have the map zoom in on that location instead of zooming all the way out - makes it a lot quicker to select the next mining spot, which usually isn't too far away, otherwise I have to zoom the map back in and pan around to find it. Also, could the currently selected node be hilighted somehow?

Once an item that is not hard listed is selected, could it be added to the hard list immediately? Zinc ore is all the way at the bottom of the list, which is a pain when I'm targeting it!

In mining mode, could the button be renamed from "Found item lost" (which had me confused for a minute) to "Damaged"?

The skillpoints doesn't seem to work consistently. Sometimes the display is correct, and the slider moves back to 0 on saving a log, at other times, the display drops to 0, but the slider stays where it was put, while on other occasions, it does what it is supposed to ~ most odd! (This is on Firefox 3.6.13 btw)

With a view to helping in finding those "sweet spots", how about adding two more buttons alongside "sweet spot found": One for "you sense more above" and one for "you sense more below". The information could then be presented as a range (-4/+3) and which would become more accurate with each attempt - someone mining at 0 might get a "below" so the range would become (-4/-1) while the next person gets an "above" at -2. We now have the sweet spot at -1 even though nobody has reported it as such!

I do like the new layout though, it seems familiar, not sure where I've seen it before ;)

Keep up the great work!!

Dave

With this system, how do we add data? When I open a point the only thing there is the items found and "Log this point" which just refreshes the page. Tried in Firefox and IE

@Victor: I really hope that the log opens up below the map when you press the "Log this point"... if not please let me know.

This is the way to add information to the maps... We look at the logs generated and if there are new items and it seems consistent we add information to the maps.

I just tried again with the same results.
Went to http://www.disciplesoftheland.com/Maps.aspx (after logging in)
Filter it down to logging points in La Noscea, specifically around Camp Skull Valley.
Click on a point, it opens a screen that shows what can be logged there.
Click on "Log this spot" and page refreshes.

It is correct that the page refreshes but the log should open up below the map with information on the spot you are trying to log.

Are any one else getting this error? I can not reproduce it...

I clicked log this point and had information pop below the map to fill in. This was on Chrome. And I've never used the log function before so I assume this was working normally. I'm not sure why this information won't show up correctly for Victor. Try a different browser?

Glad you found it :D

That being said maybe the log should be in a popup? Hmmm will have to consider...

That way the map would also stay at the same zoom level and position...

I have made some changes to the log in order to make it all a bit easier... the OP has been edited.
