Note: Level 15 is now Nature's Bounty, and the description is:
Increases your chance to locate rare items while gathering.

Both Nature's bounty and Veteran Trade go into the ability slot in the bottom of the Actions and Traits menu, and can be loaded with /eaction 1 "Veteran Trade", /eaction 2 "Nature's Bounty", etc. The game figures out which bar it belongs in.

These abilities trigger... randomly. I haven't found rhyme nor reason to it yet, but it's relatively often in a decent fishing session. They usually last 3-5 catch attempts.

Thanks for those macros Wanderer.  I'd been trying to figure out how to get those abilities macroed, but I figured with a slot of 1 and 2 they'd try to equip in the same slot that your other abilities like Gulleye and Dowse go.

Elemental Resistance Affect Crystal Drops?

I haven't spent much time talking with other fisherman during the course of open beta to validate this with others, but in the process of writing down what I've caught and what has yielded what shards. By far the greatest amount of shards I've received have been Fire shards, which also happens to be my highest elemental resistance. The second highest shard I've received has been Wind shards, again is my second highest elemental resistance. I'd be curious to hear other fisherman's results about this, until then this is clearly only speculative.

I've noticed this too, i use to get nothing but first shards from fishing. Then I changed my primary resistance to wind, and now i get nothing but wind. On a side note, have you found dark bass anywhere been looking for them.

I've found Dark Bass in a couple of places, just haven't gotten around to making updates yet. The earliest you can find them that I know of is the grade 2 schools of fish in Eastern Thanalan. I've also caught them out of regular waters in Western Thanalan in grade 3 and Coretheas Eastern Lowlands grade 4. The only bait I recall catching them on has been bloodworms, which also seems like every other fish bites as well. Including tons of crayfish.

I get tons of Dark Bass, the schools by Camp Drybone. Using Willow Fishing Rod, Moth Pupa, and fishing at shallow depths.
