It does seem that each tree has a species attached to it, and each species has a unique drop list. Discussing it with a few people who have more time in Botany than I, we seem to agree that each time a specific tree activates, it does so as the same species.
Is there any plan to archive this information over time, or are we sticking to just posting the locations of all trees and leaving it at that?
I know SE has already switched up what trees are where once, so ... I'd understand either approach.

This is a very valid point. Having information on the tree type and then setting the content based on this would be an advantage. I have considered doing something like this but has refrained from doing it for a couple of reasons.
Firstly this would require a lot of new information in the database (and kind of starting from scratch). As it is there is a lot of information in the database and getting all this converted would be a large task.
Secondly would be naming. As this would be pretty simple for botany this would be a lot harder for mining and almost impossible for fishing. I would like to have the same system for all three classes as this simplifies things and the system would be more complicated if adding information about resource points are different for the different classes.
Thirdly I am not sure how much it would help the visitors of the site. At the moment the maps can be sorted by the content of the resource points. So if you need information about elm trees you would just pick elm log in the dropdownlist and BAM you have all the elm trees (and no other resource points) on the map.
If a lot of people REALLY want this I would be willing to implement it but as it is now I would much rather spend the time on improving on the other things on the site I need to look at.
At the moment I am spending a lot of time adding items to the database. I want to get more or less all the base items into the system. This way we can start adding a lot more recipes. It is a lot of work getting all these items into the database as I have to do it manually. I have not been able to data mine the game files (which would have been GREAT to do) so there is a lot of hard work involved in this and process is slow.
I hope this answers your questions and if you have other ideas be sure to let me know as we want to bring you the best information possible and a lot of the functionality here is based on ideas of the users of the site. |

I would say to be able to acomplish this, we would need to add a 'filter' to the search function in the Maps and Logs.
Right now we can pull down and chooose Logging. From there, if we could have a pull down labeled as "including" and then select the resource we are looking for. That way it only show those logging nodes that include the resource.
This really only becomes useful when ALL nodes have ALL available mats listed. But we will get there for sure, and Bot is moving up the list of things for me to do, so I'll start logging spots we don't have info on.
