Just wanted to pass this tip on, to help every one get more resources out of every logging/mining point. Probably works for fishing too, but I gave up fishing at rank 10. *EDIT* First of all, I thought I already made this edit. As a matter of fact, I could have sworn I did, including the big red edit note. Anyway, it turns out this trick only works on leve created mining/logging spots. It does not work on normal points*/EDIT*

Ok, so, you have 3 attempts left for that logging or mining point, but your first strike of this attempt was a miss and soaked up 70% of your bar. Even if you get lucky and hit it on your second swing, you know that you will at best damage the target, letting you know what you were swinging at.

So.. you cancel out. Then attempt to log or mine again.. guess what? you are at three attempts still. It won't tell you that immediately, but if you finish through your next attempt, successful or not, it will then tell you that you have 2 more attempts left. And 2 + the one you just made is 3, the number you had left before.

In summary, if this attempt is loosing, cancel out before your last swing, and you get to try again, at a small cost of time (but that's less time than running around trying to find the next point, especially when not on a levequest)

Time Cost for fishing would probably be higher (*gets a nibble, waits, a nibble, waits, a nibble, waits, nothing is biting...*)

This will prolly be very useful for fishing such fish as Indigo Herring, which there is only 1 possible spot, and you can generally tell from the first jig if it is a herring or not. Thanks for the tip.

I have an apology to make I think. I tested this on Leve spots, not on normal spots.

It appears they behave differently. I just discovered this. Will edit to match.

The OP is wrong.

If you advance in any DoL node to the point that you see the remainder bar, that attempt has been consumed, and you will have less attempts remaining if you cancel out of the node.

For it to work any other way would be absurd, since even without swinging, once you see the remainder bar, you can determine what item you have a chance of catching, in many cases, especially with premium materials.

Example, yew trees in Ceorthas grade 5.

Swan feather = ~50% remainder bar
Yew branch = ~65-70% remainder bar
Mistletoe = ~80%
Yew log = ~80%

If I am at yew log notch, with 2 of the 3 possible remainder bars, I know with certainty what the item is. Only with the 80% bar remaining is there any uncertainty, and depending on the moon phase, its more often then not, yew logs.

Purple, if you notice, I already corrected myself, in the post directly above yours. It only works on gathering points from Leves. I don't know why it works, but it does.

This is very useful though to squeeze the most out of those Leve's which have you gatehe 2 or 3 locations to ensure that each attempt (under Guardian Aspect) get you the most SP. Nice tip.

I use this trick a lot just to avoid losing rare lures, and also to maximize SP on leves. Thanks for posting about it for others.
