#########THIS POST IS OUTDATED#########

FOR A GUIDE TO FISHING IN FFXIV: ARR PLEASE GO HERE

#########THIS POST IS OUTDATED#########

OK guys... I have spent a lot of evenings and weekends on this guide. I have tried to compile all the information I could find about fishing in Final Fantasy XIV into one guide that encompass it all.

I really hope that you will give me some feed back on the guide. There are still things I miss information about and I will keep working on the guide to make it as good as possible. But I need your help to do this, so if you have any suggestions or corrections be sure to let me know Smile

Guide to Fishing in Final Fantasy XIV (FFXIV)

As always please share this guide if you like it. I have added a "Share" button at the top and would be very happy if you used it BigGrin

***Update to reflect changes in game***

Just reading through you're guide and with regards to alchemy, do you get decent sp through them ranges or not?

Would be a great way to level alchemy if so.

It really depends on what fish you choose for your recipes but if you take fish that are high level compared to your alchemy-rank you will get lots of SP. I know a lot of alchemists have started buying fish because it's more or less the easiest way to rank up. All the fish in the game have started selling because of this.

A word on using Fish to skill up Cul and Alch:

It is now WAY more advantageous to use fish whom have a synth that is 5+ level's above you. Espically if you have some other crafting skills (Preserve, Makers Muse, Fullfillment, Tender Touch). Sucess on these synths will give you 650-750 SP, failure (depending on how far you got) can give over 300...for a fail!

I am working on a Cooking guide right now and will post it soon showing examples of which fish to use at what level should you want to fish using synths that are Below, Even, or Above your level for the range.

This would be great Truvy, also I just tried v.clams at rank 10 alc and it was giving about 200 sp?

Ah nevermind, I see its rank 5 synth on YG, I've only fished around LL so my fish are mostly tigers/sharks/clams/coral/pickles/breams/gobys.

I'll have to do some digging around to find some 10-20 cul synths!

33 - 50
La Noscea
Isles of Umbra (Grade 10)

Pill bugs work equally well compared to sinking minnows. Maybe things will improve with the economy but sinking minnows are a requested item only among the crafters on my server. outside of the few you get from lev's, it is possible that they may not have enough or any to fish here. plus pill bugs can be bought from a vendor in Ul'dah.

personally going here at 33 seems a bit early, but i cant support my argument since fishing sp/exp has changed dramatically recently.
From what i remember, i had a rather difficult time getting bites when i first tried this spot at rank 38. it could have been due to my physical level, stat placement, gear, or god forbid weather/moon phase. at 33 i would assume the bite rate in grade 4 would be getting a lot better (at least more frequent), which could justify toughing it out here until at least 35.

lastly this:
http://www.bluegartr.com...p;viewfull=1#post4400863

I typed it out once, i don't have the motivation to type it out again. It basically explains the concept behind the low level fish being generally easier to reel in, even under extreme circumstances such as fatigue.

It's a great guide! brings me back to reading the FFXI fishing guide. man i think i read that close to 500 times back then.

I'll have to try Pill Bugs. Lugworms suck for Grade 9 Moraby Bay and Grade Isles of Umbra. I had 30 Sinking Minnows made but I am down to 7 now, and would rather use something easier to produce and less expensive. Sinking Minnows are like 90% bite rate for me in these two areas.

@level 32 (tried @lvl31 too but didn't catch anything) I'm fishing right at the Grade 5 pond where the hard iffrit quest is done using chocobo fly (-1 depth) for black ghost and crayfish.

-419-436 XP when I pull out anything
-212-216 XP when Fish got away, which is more than I was getting with successful cast @ camp bloodshore or cassiopea hollows.

Of course expect to give a raise from time to time to random LS that wipe.

hope this helps ppl level faster!

Great Guide, It is helping me a lot. One fix I noticed is the Cotton Work Gloves (Yellow) (Output +8, Perception +4) are level 21 not 17.
