Hello all, i'm new to this board ^^.

now to my problem.
I'm currently rank 21 with fishing, and i'm strictly following this site's guide for grinding thru my ranks.

but my problem is, ever since i went over to the Bloodshore coast for grade 3 fishing i feel very unlucky.
i only catch about 2/10 fishes, sometimes even less.

is it me, or is this normal that i don't catch as many as i did with grade 1/2?

To clarify:

On 10 'bites' you are only able to reel in 2?

Or on 10 casts you are only getting 2 bites?

There could be a couple of reasons for either of those 2 mentioned conditions. If you are getting bites but can only reel in a small amount of them then I would say you need to improve your gear (Aim for as much "Gathering" as you can get.). Alongside that, increase your DEX and PIE.

Should it be the other way around, and you are not getting bites, then double check your gear that you are using Saltwater lures/bait. Using freshwater only ones will cause this to happen.

...there is also a third condition, and it happens only to gathering classes. Its called Fatigue. Different from Surplus (which affects your SP/EXP gain), fatigue simply causes instant fails on gathering attempts if you have been doing it for too long [I'm right in the middle of a study to determin how many/long it takes before you hit this, and quickly it resets]. If you've dont alot of fishing recently to rank up, this could be the case and you might need to give it a rest for a day or so.

Don't forget jig lag,

http://ffxiv.zam.com/for...ge=1#m129846899836655898

If your ISP's connection/ping speed varies greatly, you will find there to be times that you can not fish without a massive amount of fails.

yea, i meant this ^^, they bite, but i usually fail to reel them in, even after the fish is tired.

if this is true, then probably this might be my case.
i usually start a new class and don't stop before i hit 20+, and in the last 30 hours i went from 1-21, i guess i'll give it a break heh.

i don't think it's lag, i can't say for sure, but my ISP is pretty fast and accurate, so it's not from my side atleast ^^.
but i usually never lag in FFXIV aswell, well, not anymore ever since the first 3 weeks after it's release XD

If you have gone through 21 ranks in 30 hours there is no doubt that you will be fatigued. I am impressed that you didn't get fatigued a lot sooner actually LOL

the fact that he didn't means possibly a couple of things:

1) The hard reset/refresh for fatigue exists within the 30 hour window.

2) The time spent between places gathering etc allowed enough passive refresh to occur (see thread on fatigue study in general DoL) so that gathering could continue.

Its only 111k from 1 to 20. So I would imagine around 500-600 or so sucesses (not sure on the SP gain at lower levels now that its been buffed up so very doable. 30 hours would work out to be like 65SP a min.)

i started having problems ever since i went to the grade 3 spot, so at 15.
at first i thought it might be because of my lvl, but after hitting 21 it didn't get better, and that's when i took a break heh.

at first i didn't mind failing a few times, since even the failed baits got me like 120 SP.
but at 21 a failed bait only gets me like 50-60 anymore, also i hit surplus around 18 so yea heh.

i'll take it easy for the next 2 days, got some crafting to do anyways ^^
