Hey All!

So I finally got Sweat of Brow yesterday, and my FSH is R23. I'm looking to take this skill to the top, but I wanted to bounce a few things off of you guys, first.

Gear:

What kind of gear do you normally use for gathering? I made myself a R17ish set of various WVR/TAN recipes, which has seemed to be okay, but now that I'm nearing Canvas level, there's that Coatee set out there. Do you guys normally stick with the Doublet Vest/Bandana route, or do you go with the Coatees?

Fishing Locations:

I read on here that Bloodshore is good until R23, and I read that R30+, and I can try that G10 zone in La Noscea. Was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for the trek from R23 to R30.

I enjoy fishing a lot, but the gathering fatigue just really annoys me. If I want to spend my day off fishing and ending up with like 60k, I think I should be able to. I really hate that I can only fish for like 1-2 hours tops before I have to call it quits for the day, so I'm trying to best maximize my SP/Hour.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated! ThumpUp

Basically the scale works as follows:

Use whatever gear you have/can find. Focus (for SP) on Gathering over Output (since you are fishing open bodies of water and not schools).

For R23 I would do the following test:

Fish for 20 mins at Grade 2. Log your total SP gained and make note of:

- Bite rate (bites/nibbles vs Nothing bites)
- Difficulty in reeling in fish (if you get bites, but loose them to not having enough remainder, its only 1/2 the SP)

Fish for 20 mins at Grade 3. Log your total SP gained and make note of the same things.

Compare these and which ever one offers you the most SP i would go with.

ALSO note, that grade 6-10 have only low level fish at the moment. It might be worht it to ALSO test perhaps a grade 6 body of water and see if the lower bite rate but much higher SP is worth it.

Combine this with doing fishing leve's with GA in effect and it level's quit quickly. As far as fatigue (see thread here: http://www.disciplesofth...m.aspx?g=posts&t=252 for research on the matter) it takes about 12 hours to be fully refreshed once you hit [FAT]. Do your leve's during this time and grind down your catches (Alch and Cul).

Thanks for the quick Reply, Truvy. And huzzah for Oregonians :D Did you have to struggle with the snow today? Had to take a bus and the MAX to make it into work today. What a pain!

Good to know that I can focus on Gathering and not Output. Do I need to worry about Perception at all?

And I haven't struggled much at all with G3 fishing at Bloodshore. So as long as you think the best best is sticking with G3 nodes until I hit R30, I'll do so. I don't think G2 would be better than bloodshore at this point. I'll do the 20-minute thing at Bloodshore at the G6-10 spots to test it out.

I think I read on here that when you unlock the R30 leves at R25 you can do them with GA and get alot of SP. I'm hoping this is true, because I'd really like to be able to power through them.

My problem is I have so many things that I want to do in this silly game that I'm trying to maximize my efficiency doing any one particular task. Razz

Woot! Rose City representin'. You guys should take a look at that Portlandia show on IFC. I just watch it on-demand with comcast, since my package doesn't include IFC, I don't think. Very querky show. It's probably on Hulu, too.

Gear is pretty straight forward.
Jerkin, Work Gloves, Work Boots, Culouttes, and a Fishing Hat.
The belt is a bit trickier, so do a search on YG.

Basically, all the gear you will need ends in the same ending, and they just modify the prefix depending on the tier.

ie,
Sheepskin Jerkin
Dodoskin Jerkin
Leather Jerkin
and so on,

It's all the same thing, just scaled to the higher tier.

You will not want a coatee for fishing, unless you need to do school fishing.

At 23, you can start grade 4 fishing, once you have a decent set of gear. Base your location choice of the available loot lists.

Note, with leves, guardians favor, and some smart fishing, you can easily do 60k SP in a sitting.

Additionally, if you camp the max water you can that offers nibbles to your bait, even with a fail, you are getting more SP then you did with a success with the old system.

The first week of the SP changes, I'm sure many people, including myslef, fished through surplus and fatigue, simply because even after all those penalties, the SP was still better then the day before.
Over 100 SP on a failed catch, due to fatigue, in surplus, is very much grindable for me, especially since I've done > 500k SP in both Mining and Botany, all at <100 SP per SUCCESS!!!!

Fishing is so GD easy to rank up now.

(Oh, and don't forget your sweat of brow to double your SP when active. Just sitting there waiting for nibbles, not caring about catching anything, and taking in 200SP is so ammusing)

Thanks for all the replies!

I'm going to ding FSH24 tonight. And I'll upgrade all my gear to the good stuff. I didn't know about Jerkins! Love

Do you think R24 with gathering gear in the 20's rank range will be good enough to start targetting the higher waters? I don't even care about fish so much right now, so the G1 fish that are offered at G6+ are fine by me.

I'm mainly just curious if I should be waiting until R30+ to try that, or if I should be trying that now. I do have sweat of brow, and last night I think I was averaging about 9k/hour fishing at G3 Bloodshore. So I'd like to do better than that, if possible.

Also, any tips on geting 60k SP from leves? I'm assuming those numbers are when doing R30 leves at R25 with GA. But any tips would be much appreciated!
