Just a suggestion for group discussion:
There is a LOT of stuff to test in FFXIV with respect to Fishing: Spot, Rank, Gear, Moon, Weather, Depth, etceteras. This site provides a fantastic way to capture this kind of information, but in my opinion, due to the broadness, it is sometimes challenging to get engaged to do the respective logging and then to analyze the resultant output and convert it into meaningful observations.
Could the site maybe introduce a weekly "Test Challenge" with a very specific scope which members could sign up for/contribute to? We could then tailor our testing - which I think that all of us already do as part of our individual Fishing process anyway - around a specific objective, record the results, and then have the data and relevant expert reviews posted back to us?
I [obviously] haven't thought this fully through which is one reason that I am raising it for open debate, but I feel like this site has a great and committed constituency and phenomenal tools provided to us, and maybe with some more specific organization and focus, we could really dissect the craft in a way that provides collective value.
May be good idea, may be bad, just putting it out there...

Hi Sun.Zhi
I think this is a great idea. Getting targeted information would be very valuable instead of every body doing a bit here and a bit there. This would mean we could say something like "This week we log Camp Bearded Rock" or "This week every body mine Skull Valley". Also we could focus on other aspects like weather or moonphases.
I believe I would have to build some kind of interface for reading the stats that could be available to moderators. I can not my self commit to a weekly update... I would love to be able to do that but I don't have one specific day I could sit down and do it.
Let's discuss this more in depth and try to get an idea on how this would work.
PS. I was actually thinking of adding Eorzea time to the logs. This way we could also get information about what time of day is best for gathering. It could be added automatically from the site clock. |
