Black Sole: Where is the best location to catch these? What's the best Lure? I believe Rat Tails are the best but they get depleted too fast. I can never get enough lightning crystals for my alchemy and Black Sole are ever for sale. thanks for the help!

Boat dock in Western Thanalan is the only place in the game to catch them. I recommend spoon lures. |

So i tried spoon lure and fished there but still didn't get many. is that really the only place to get these fish? Does anyone have different bait or suggestion?

Yes this is the only place and no there aren't really any better options for bait.
What rank are you? Remember that Black Sole is rank 46 and may be hard to land. |

i haven't tried spoon lure much but I like sinking minnow for them. Plus I feel you shouldn't really try them until you can at least equip sinking at optimal rank (you'll just loose too many). Depth is -4 btw, wasn't sure if that was mentioned. |

I've been using spoon lures with great success, but I'll try switching to sinking minnow and see how my catches compare based on the same amount of time spent fishing.
Although it is probably too late now with the new patch change for fishing. If you meet rank requirement for the fish, meet the DEX requirement for that grade of water, use the right bait, and fish at the right depth, you get a 100% chance to reel in your targeted fish. And since I am rank 50 with like 175 DEX and a Horn Rod +1, I probably can no longer offer much help unless I want to dump my DEX or something. |

hey guys there are more then just the boat docks to catch them. i have found 2 other spots. first is the cliff above the boat docks. which i like to use becuase its not ever crowded. second is a little alcove north of the boat docks by a grid square or two. as long as its on that western cost you can catch them. I belive ive even caught them south of the docks but not sure. i am 100% sure of the other two though becuase i fish them all the time.

No higher than 90 (as mine is 90). Likely lower but others need to confirm that. I have a thread working on confirming the jig locations of various fish and am looking for others with different ranks and dex levels to test out their results to try and get a min established.

So as of the last couple of nights i have been out at the Thanalan docks fishing for black sole. And after bouncing through the baits i had on me it seems that im having the most luck with the Floating Minnow lure. Seems every 3rd cast is a black sole at this point. Thought i would toss out the feedback on the Floating Minnow for Black Sole. Also im very interested to go and try these alternate fishing locations up above as we have quite a few fishers around the dock portion who from what i could see were also Black Sole fishing. Oh and i can also add in that crab balls were pulling fish but very weakly. Seems they kept slipping off the line so my recommendation is to not use that bait on this coast. Anyways keep up the good work and feedback and ill try to do the same. |
