Most of you may remember the Ebisu rod and Lu Shang's rod from FFXI Love. I would really love to see something like this in FFXIV as I guess a lot of other people do.

But how would this be implemented. At the moment the quests and leves of the game are so short and really easily done. Getting the DoL class specific quests done is over and done with quickly and it seems the same goes for the other classes in the game.

I would really like to see some quests with more scope. Something that would take many hours or even days to complete. Getting the rods in FFXI certainly took forever and I think we need this kind of quests that will take commitment and time to accomplish. I have never been more proud than when I got my Lu Shang's. It had taken me weeks (months?) and I finally had it.

One of the problems I see with doing this at the moment is that we have yet to see level cap raised. In FFXI fishing was an ability and you would never be able to get it above 100 (except by using gear). In the future we will see the level cap raised and if people get a great rod at rank 50 it would seem silly that no better rod existed if the cap was raised to 75.

So do we want a quest where we need to get 10,000 fish or should it be something else? Should we wait until the cap is raised or do we want one now and then one again once the cap is raised?

Either way I think some more content for DoL is needed and I really hope that we will see it soon (and I could say the same for crafting by the way).

IMO, give us an epic rod at 50, but like relics in FFXI, make it upgradeable in stages so that as the level cap is raised, we can do new quests to increase its capabilities.

I'm currently in the process of writing up lots of dif ideas I have as suggestions for XIV dev team. One of which involves fishing faction leves. Once I've completed the fishing part I'll post it on the forums for you guys to have a read. ^.^

Now to stop being lazy and actually write more!

Yea Right...

As for that I don't believe there will be any relics until at least PS3 release when the level cap will be increased.

Basicly the way I see it, PS3 release will bring a expansion pack, much like how RoZ was for XI. Before RoZ XI was shit from what I have heard, there was only really 3 or 4 HNM's (King artho, panzer, etc)

Once RoZ was released proper endgame was also released as well as relics and endgame equips, I believe this will be the same for XIV except it will happen at same time PS3 is released. Once that is done then we might start seeing fishing relics :D

The thing with Lushang and Ebisu is that once you had them there was nothing better. Fishing in XIV is different because while we're at R50 now, eventually we'll be at R55, R60, R65, ect. Who wants to fish up 10,000 pipira for a fishing rod that will be outdated by the next tier of craftable rods? Even if you managed to fish up 200 pipira a day, and fished 5 days a week, that is 1000 fish a week, you'd have to fish non-stop for 10 weeks.

I think if there are rare fishing rods, they're going to be crafted, perhaps with a super-rare fish as a material, or a drop of a NM that we can't get as fishers, but will have use use DoW/DoM.

I am sure we will, but I am sure its not gonna be anytime soon. DoL will always take a backseat to DoW.

I wouldn't mind a fishing faction NM. You go out to a designated area and enter an instance. When the NM fish bites it acts like a R(faction level) fish. Instead of reeling it in right away if you "win" you gain +2% reeled in. If you "lose aka 'fish got away'" you lose 1%. Since it's an instance maybe you'd be able to see the giant swordfish or w/e fighting with you in the distance every time u increase or decrease %catch.

For rank 50, do the whole 100/200/400 faction points for it whatever as an NM for that 3rd faction option instead of stupid picking up poop...

I'd settle for the legendary fish to be added to the game to then make necesssary a Uber Rod.

What could be considered an "uber" rod? The current highest ranking rod gives +69 to each of our three stats. The +1 gives +73 to all three stats. The +2 probably gives +77, and the +3 following the same pattern would give +81. The +3 giving 12 extra points to each of our three stats, or a total increase of 36 points if you total them.

To define what could be considered an "uber" rod we first have to define the value each of the three stats has. Are the all equal, or is one more valuable than the others? Then, we have to figure out how many points does it take to make any noticeable increase in our fishing ability. Do +4 points in any of the three stats offer any noticeable increase in our ability? If not, does +8? Or +12?

The closest thing we have to an "uber" rod is the Horn Fishing Rod +3. But, just how uber is it really? I have the +1 version, and I don't think much of it compared to the NQ. My +1 cost 1,000,000. I see a +2 for sale for 10,000,000 gil on my server, but I don't think that is a realistic price for a +2 (maybe a +3). But, if I throw down the gil for it, which I could do, will I notice a difference in my ability to fish?

I have a feeling that once skill points don't mean much on their own, rather they're used to gauge the ease of fishing up each specific type of fish. And that would mean once we reach a certain level of skillpoints, any further increase won't make fishing up easy fish any easier, but would make harder fish easier.

So, if all I want to do is fish up Grade 2 fish, does an uber rod matter? Will a +3 horn rod make a difference on such easy fish? Or will the +3 horn rod only make a difference on Grade 5+ fish?

It's still way too early for a lot of stuff including relic gear or rods. First the game has to get to a point where they will even consider releasing it on ps3. That's not going to happen until the game is in perfect shape to not only come out on ps3 but to start billing us to play. It won't come out on console and be free to play.

If there is no ps3 release the game will either be free to play forever with hardly any population or get shut down. The PC release was a failure overall so everything depends on the ps3 release and that means all the ideas they may have like relics years down the road.

After that happens it needs at least another year or two before relics start to kick in. You can't even count the first year of this game as anything more than some glorified beta. There is a lot of stuff I want and most of it I'm not in a hurry for. Need something to look forward to over the next 2-5 years.

Not to mention Japan is in really bad shape right now energy wise which just delays ff14 production even more but they are moving forward. The cities are so scarce compared to when I played in the Fall. I think relics especially for DoL are on the back, back burner. Probably scribbled down in some notebook on page 200 right now.
