Hi I'm kinda new to this site. So far it looks really informative and well made.
I really like fishing in FFXIV, it kinda surprises me since I have no real interest in fishing in real life.
I'm now 14 rank fisher and my main combat class is thaumaturge. Since I won't be adding dex, I was wondering if it still makes me have a fair chance of catching rare fish in higher grades. I noticed with high ranked fish my stamina bar will deplete more rapidly, but does this it make a crucial difference in the playability of fisher as a class in FFXIV?

Bar depletion(stamina) is affected by your rank vs the rank of the fish. + gathering on gear helps to increase this bar.

I am also a mage main and have pitifully low dex, it hasnt ruined my fishing. Moreover in december I ran a series of tests for all three gathering classes. For fishing I made 200casts in grades 2 and 3 with base stats, then again with everything in dex and again with everything in pie. I have pages and pages of data, but no obvious answers as to what each stat does because overall the results for all three tests are almost the same. (Same for Mining(Vit/Mnd) and botany(str/int) As far as I'm concerened the difference made by pumping stats is minimal.:P

Thanks for answering my question. Now I can just enjoy the fishing without any concerns on subject on my mind. Laugh

DEX is now required for fishing with this patch. :P How much DEX is unknown. The patch notes say it depends on the grade of water. You're not out of the woods yet!

I quite like this idea, but I just hope it's not done like Food. With food you have to be within a certain range, for example. G1 would be 10-20, G2 = 30-40, G3 = 60-70, G4 = 90-100, G5 = 110-120

Hopefully They make it so having 120 dex (or w.e the cap is) will allow you to fish all the previous grades perfectly. Else it's just gonna make things frustrating when targeting lower grade items. Much like dart frogs...

Also on a opposite note, pre-patch I found out what Piety does when I was fishing black sole with my friend. With around 30 piety and after a entire day 98% of my catches were single soles. So I change my stats and bumped dex down to around 120, and piety up to about 120. Now I get a high yield of X2/X3 sole/catch. So basically Piety gives bigger yields (didn't effect HQ rate at all btw)

Obviously I have no actual tests and is just how I found it from my fishing there for quite a while.

Note on the first trip, right near the end i reset my points and pumped my piety up to 90, and that made me catch quite a lot of x2/x3 fish, so it wasn't just a bad moon that was screwing me.

Dang, thats a bummer.

Anyone know a build to combine thaumaturge and fishing. Because those are my primary activities in the game.
So if I still have to add dex what do you think the minimum requirement value should be to be able to fish properly.
And what are soles?
And how can I change my stats and will it cost gil?
Sorry if I'm asking obvious noob questions..

EDIT: nvm I know what a sole is now.. :)
