Anybody hate the fact that sinking minnows are one of the harder items to get in the game? I can never seem to find them in the market wards and even though I can craft them the materials are no where to be found either. I mean seriously two hard to find bugs to make the paints which you need to be a master alchemist to make wtf. I'm starting to think i'll be on spoon lures forever.
Anyone have any suggestions other than grind it out? Where are people grinding for the bugs (i have a high level alchemist friend) |

I don't have any real info to put forward about the sinking minnow. But i do feel for your problem as its something i'm running into as well. I ended up just wasting my gil and bought 99xsinking minnows to tide me over since they seem to hit most of the floating minnow fish and are only 1k from vendor. Normally i wouldn't waste my money on a vendor item but i really feel the same about the spoon lures. But with the need of a carpenter, smith, and alchemist this is a very hard to make lure. I plan on when I finally become able to make them on taking over the market for them along with Vulture Fly's. But until someone takes up the lure calling i doubt we will see many for just the reasons you were saying. Good luck to you though on your search for them. I hope it end up working out for you. |

They are hard to come by because the "Or Lac Bugs" needed to make the lacquor to make them, are found at only one grade 5 spearfishing node on the east side of Iron Lake surrounded by Kobolds. However, with a little patience it is possible to sneak in there and spearfish for them, downside is its a rare drop for the node too...last time it took me 9 attempts (of 5 gathers each) to get 4 of them to make the lacquor.

Heh, yeah its about the only reason too. What _is_ nice is that south of the Kobolds area there is a Harvesting and lumberjacking nodes about so you can quickly hit 2 of those and go right back to the spearfishing one :D

The whole thing sounds counter intuitive because you need the minnow's to get to a higher rank (not need I guess but it helps) but to get the minnows you need to be a higher rank (I only get 2 spearfish at Iron Lake at level 35). Just pissing me off a bit. Then on top of that you need to be a master crafter to make the damn paint to make the damn thing lol. Anyways just venting. Did I mention the market ward system sucks... |

I reached R50 in december using only Chocobo lures. The lure is not required by any means to level. Espically with Grade 10 waters

You can get them from the grade 5 spearfishing points around Camp Nine Ivies in the black shroud, I believe. =] |

Agreed it just feels like my bite rate is super low at the isle of umbra location with my spoon lures. |

Try the spearfish nodes at bloodshore for Glues and Or bugs. I haven't tried those nodes myself for the bugs but I have heard they can be found there. Also when it comes to bite rates. I think grade 6 or 7 should be around the same sp as grade 10? Might get better bite rates at a lower grade for near max sp? Edited by user Friday, May 06, 2011 1:24:43 PM(UTC)

I thought I remember getting both gules and or there as well, but I wasn't positive since it has been a while that I've paid much attention to spearfishing. I can say that now that I have some backup evidence from someone else, haha!
I used spoon lures to rank up in grade 10 waters from R30 all the way to R50 (minus leves). I didn't have much a problem. |

only Gules (and 2 other lower ones) can be got there, the Or is exclusive to the node on east-iron-lake

When i did some black sole I only had 3 sinking lures from leves so I went and made some. I spent maybe 30mins max spearfishing at nine ivies (rotating the 3 spots there) and I managed to get 8 or, and like 15 gules. So that was equivalent to 24 or lacquer, and at least 24 gules lacquer. Which in turn made 75 sinking minnows (yay for HQ lol) so due to how many you get out of a synth, they aren't that hard to get hold of, the or bugs are the worst, but aren't as hard as everyone thinks if you only need a small number. |

Well, at least we know for sure there is more than one place to get the Or. Nine Ivies has three nodes so that is really nice. I might go farm up a bunch and sell the lacquer to help the market keep lures in stock. |

Yea I think I documented the nine ivies spearfishing results so whatever is on there is true >.> Main reason I even did them in the first place was because people were trying to sell them for 30k/lure, and that's ridiculous. All up (including synthing time, and walking to nine ivies and what not) it prolly took 2 hrs to make 75 lures. so 2,250,000g for 2 hrs work... yea I think its better just to make em >.> (btw I made everything from scratch, had ores stocked from coblyn killing a couple months back).
Before I went looking for the or bugs I spent maybe 3 or 4 days checking wards for the lacquer and couldn't find any, so they should sell somewhat decently. |

Well now the three of us on Lindblum can flood the market and undercut each other, thanks Drar ;) *Edit* I can confirm the south spearfish at bloodshore for Glues. I can confirm the north spearfish at bloodshore for Or. Edited by user Sunday, May 08, 2011 1:15:20 PM(UTC)
