Hey Kida/Mods I am starting this thread a new in this section in hopes that it will be more visible and others will help contribute to the project.

This is a simple to understand color coded set of bait charts.

Green: Favored Bait Confirmed by Me/Vesper or Confirmed by Community with Screenshots.
Purple: Favored Bait Confirmed by word of mouth via community
Blue: Normal non favored Bite rate

I put in a large amount of time on each fish with each bait before I mark it with a color and move on. But with the way the system is you are not guaranteed to always get a "SOMETHING BIG HITS YOUR LINE/THE FISH SEEM TO BE BITING ON" message. I have gotten a message one night against a certain fish over and over. Then the same fish with the same bait I will not get that message for weeks. So as you can see there is room for error here.

I plan to overtime fish every fish with every bait myself, but even so there will be some doubt on the blue marked fish. I could really use other fishers help on this.

How You Can Help

If you find this chart useful please give me a hand and pay attention when fishing more.

1. Look for fish that I have marked blue and if you notice you in fact get a favored bite ("SOMETHING BIG HITS YOUR LINE/THE FISH SEEM TO BE BITING ON") Screenshot it.

2. Make sure that the Message saying which lure they are biting on is in the screenshot as well as the dialogue that shows you successfully caught it. This way I can update the chart with information I may have not been able to get myself.

3. Upload this image to this thread (I will be checking in every few days).

Current Goal

Also note that my current goal is to finish the Saltwater bait chart off first. The Freshwater one is coming in the future.

Feel free to upload screenshots to help me fill in information that is missing from either chart. I just ask that you provide a screenshot as outlined above and then I shall add it to the chart and give you a credit as one of the contributing fishers for the project.

Final Note: The Reason this is linked to lodestone and not embedded is that I have a similiar thread going on several websites. It takes too much time to add the new image to each site every time I update the charts. Also, everyone has a lodestone account that plays.

Saltwater Chart has been updated!

Note: I Mistakenly called it 1.9 in the comment update and on the actual chart. I am not going to change it atm, too lazy. Be assured the current chart is the most up-to-date.

I apologize for the link hiatus. I ended up moving to a new state and everything has been really hectic. Things are calming down so we will hopefully see updates flowing more often, but no guarantees. The link below will bring you to the most up to date charts!

The Following baits BLOODWORM, CRAB BALL, FLOATING MINNOW, HERRING BALL, LUGWORM, PILL BUG & RAT TAIL have been tested against the fish below. My research next takes me to the waters of Bloodshore...

Ash Tuna
Bianaq Bream
Blowfish
Blue Coral
Hammerhead Shark
Indigo Herring
Red Coral
Silver Shark

Hey Vesper:

I was wondering about Gigant Octopus:

http://www.disciplesofth...com/ItemView.aspx?id=583

I have been unable to find any info on this or saw it on your charts and it's part of a recipe for sea sand.

Love the charts!!

thanks,

V

The Gigant Octopus is not yet in the game. There are some recipes that are given as rewards for leves but no items above rank 50 are implemented.

We just have to wait until they implement the grade 6 to 10 waters before we will know anything about the higher ranking fish.

I just wanted to let everyone know that I have implemented all the information Fallensbane (Vesper) has gathered in the database. I have cross referenced this with the information from Truvy's compendium and added a few items.

For an example on how the data is implemented in the database check almost any fish (Wahoo, Silver Shark etc. and go to the panel "Bait and Lures")

You can see what the result is here
Saltwater
and here
Freshwater

I will keep this updated and try to expand on the information.

Now please help Fallensbane by uploading pictures as he suggests in the op. Read his post and see what is needed (especially: Screenshot or it didn't happen).

I would love to get some more information on the freshwater bait, especially Bass Ball, Midge Basket and Moth Pupa. So if you have any of these grab your rod and go catch some fish.... please :D

Here are some fish/baits that are not listed on this site or in Vesper's chart yet for freshwater. Was not able to catch a Black Eel outside of the gathering attempts I was given for the school of fish. Tried forever.. no luck.

Black Eel = the Lungfish (ffxi) of ffxiv.

Sandfish - crow fly

Black Eel - crow fly

Black Eel - Bass Ball

Ala Mhigan - crow fly - difference here is I kept getting the "big hit, seem to be biting" line for these a lot on Crow Flies and it's not listed as favorable bait.

Also, I didn't get pics sorry but also fished up:

Striped Goby on Crow Fly - regular message - alot of these
Dark Bass - Crow Fly - regular message - only one

Also, I can save you some time and effort. No need to post if a fish bites at all on a certain bait. Just post anytime you get favored bites is all. This image I did awhile back shows you what works with what.

Also note, even if you use the wrong bait for a watertype you will occasionally get a bite, normally it will be Crayfish when using salt bait in freshwater and malm kelp when using fresh lures in saltwater. The bites are very inconstant, sometimes as often as 1/10 and some times it will take double to triple the casts to get a bite with the wrong bait.

Also, same goes for fishing without ANY bait, you can get bites, rarely.

cool. thanks Vesper and nice work. Only reason I posted regular bites was with the chart I had saved there was all white circles for those fish which I took by the ledger that there wasn't any info on those for unfavored bite rates but I'll leave those to you and just stick with the community favored. sorry about that.

Wow, you've done a lot of work on this. Thanks for all your efforts ThumpUp .

I note you don't have Dart Frogs on you fresh water list, they can be fished near Emerald Moss, both as part of a fishing leve and in the on node fishing point.

I know they favour crow flies, I'll get you a screen shot in a bit. I'll be looking for them later today.

Edit: As promised...
