Hello All,

I realized that over the past several months I have come about several various projects in my undertaking and really got tired of trying to focus on just one at a time. Combine that with the efforts of everyone else on their various projects and I've decided the heck with it, I'm just going to make the BIG BOOK of all things fishing, or rather, "Eorezea's Fishing Compendium"

The template and test page for what it will look like can be seen here:

UPDATE: 06/02/11 Is now updated with Southern Thanalan and the Fishing Index's!

https://docs.google.com/...p;layout=list&num=50

This is a link to Google docs and the file is in Word (.doc) format. The viewer in google docs sorta distorts the images, so for a cleaner view, please download to see how it all lines up correctly. (Also note, the information in the pages being displayed are test pages only and are not 100% accurate or complete.)

My goals are now all consolidated into this one project, provide a traveling guide (that can be printed for desktop use) and can be updated as information is corrected/adjusted/added/etc.

There will be analysis given on various maps and fishing holes, depths and jig locations + favored baits all in a easy to see guide. In the back there will be a cross appendex for quick refrence that will work both "By Fish > Zone", "By Zone > Fish", and also include Rank up guide for Fishing, Cooking, and Alchemy.

As it stands, I ask those currently working on their favored bait projects to keep up the good work, and as I continue to put this together i will do my best to keep it updated as new info (jig locations, favored baits etc) become available.

Once I get the beta-version of the whole guilde posted i'll let everyone know and will of course welcome any format suggests, error corrections and the like.

Thank you :D

Ok everyone good news! I am well on my way to getting this guide up and going!

I have updated the document in google docs with my latest version, this is just the first chapter (Thanalan - West) and inludes info on the various waters found there. (NOTE: Again Google Docs does a horrible job on the 'preview' so download to see it properly displayed and aligned!)

So here is my current plan and plee for assistance:

PLAN:

1) Create Cover, Introduction, and Table of Contents
2) Begin Adding Chapters (I'll begin with the rest of Thanalan)
3) Create cross indexes prior noted in OP

During all of this document creation I would like to ask for the following:

1) Those of you (you know who you are you wonderful people you!) who are working on Favored Bait projects PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE keep up the good work. I am monitoring all of your threads and will subsequently update my guide accordingly.

2) Those who would just like to offer a helping hand, note that I will update my guide from time to time as i complete new chapters (so people can view the work in progess). As you will note by looking at the current guide, there are a lot of "White" spaces on my charts. Both Jig and Favored Bait locations need to be populated. If you wish to help (since we want to help please submit the following to me or this thread)

A) A screen shot of a favored bait working (Just the chat log that shows:)
*The Fish seem to be biting on <Bait Name>
*Something Big hits your line!
*<whatever jig messages you have>
*You reel in <Fish Name>

Also please note the Jig location of where it finally was reeled in at.

Code:

1 2 3 4
Jig : |_____*_____|_____*_____|

B) Send me a message if you can't get the screenshot of what bait, fish and jig spot and I'll go verify it myself.

The more people who can do option A) the faster we can get this all put together! :D

Okay I've completed the Appendix images for both the Saltwater and Freshwater charts (Fish (alphabetical) by Bait/lure (rank).

**UPDATED 06/02/11** I have updated some of the favorite bait and lures, but PLEASE keep sending my confirmations of some of these others so we can get it filled in as quickly as possible. Thanks!

As you can see, there are a lot of "White" spaces to get filled in. I've got some time this weekend so I'm going to set out to see what i can get updated and filled in, at least the Jig Locations should be fairly easy to nail down.

Again, if you'd like to help please see my request in Post #2 of this thread for what you can do to help get things completed :D

That's great work Truvy.

I'll try to help out with the favored baits/jig locations if I can.

Good Evening All!

Well about 6 hours and 40 Anima later all the jig locations are now known for every fish in the game :D During my travels nailing down the jig locations i was also able to confirm a few things...

1) Finger Shrimp
Depth [-2]
Loc: School Only / Grade 1 Lower La Noscea

2) Brass Loach....no matter what bait/lure i was using, it was 50/50 if the jig location was at point 1 or 2 (tested extreme ends of those ranges, changed baits/lures, changed starting jig locations etc...and it seems to be the only fish who's jig location has 2.

3) The following favorite bait's have been confirmed/updated/added:

Maiden Carp - Topwater Frog
Sandfish - Topwater Frog
Crayfish - Snurble Fly
Crayfish - Chocobo Fly
Yugr'am Salmon - Topwater Frog
Crimson Crayfish - Wildfowl Fly
Nether Newts - Topwater Frog
Red Coral - Floating Minnow
Silver Shark - Floating Minnow
Vongola Clam - Sinking Minnow
Sea Cucumber - Crab Ball
Helmet Crab - Cage Feeder

With that I shall call it a day. Next will be more more chapters of various area's (am working on Norther Thanalan but some of the pools to the extreme north are proving difficult to get to alive (our DoL database doesn't even have these waters added as resource points but likely they are grade 8 and carry the standard 5 lowbie fish as the other grade 6+ freshwater pools do.)

This is really great work truvy... I am going to look it all over a lot closer soon and implement what I can into the database making the information available when searching for the item.

I really want to say that all this information is so great. It is impressive that you have put all this effort into finding this.

I am currently updating the database and it will be so sweet... all the accurate information in three languages. All the items... that added with the information we have exclusively on this site will make the database really great...

Once I have all this information updated I will continue with the android application.

Truvy.... wow.... You have made that which i have imagined in my usually after work smokey haze and made it a reality. This is phenomenal my friend. Honestly at this point i would rather work with you then make another fish guide. All in all my hat is off to you sir. And seriously if you need help with any specifics or what not, dont hesitate to let me know. Like if you have a specific chapter or a list of info you might need for your guide i would be more then happy to be a part of it.

Oh and P.S. ThumpUp Woot

Aww well thank you all! You sure do know how to make a lady blush :p

Just a quick update, i've changed the format a little so now the Fish name, icon, depth etc will be imbedded in one image as opposed to Text + image so it lines up better.

Also, Malm kelp has 2 jig locations (2 and 3) and will be updated on my Index pages soon.

I've got Western, Northern and Eastern Thanalan completed as well as most of southern. TOmorrow I should have souther and Central finsihed and will post an updated version for people to view.

As far as additional help, i get the feeling there are still some 'pools' not yet added to our existing database. So if you happen to run by some water and dont see it in the maps section, drop a line so we can add it, its grade and I can go fish it out and record the fishys in there.

This is really great work Truvy! ThumpUp Love

But i've a question.

Arn't there 5 jig locations?

From my experience... there's the location right in the middle, then on the left and right side from the middle, and on the far left and on the far right side.

Those 5 locations are the same for fisher, botanist and miner.

Well, at least that's what i thought so far.

I'll soon go fishing again at a grade 5 spot where you can catch crimson crayfish, northern pike and velodyna carp. And i'm almost sure that i reeled some of them in on the right side too. But you chart says the jig locations of those is only on the left side.

I can soon give you some data about that! =)

Naw just 4 for fishing*

* The disclaimer of course. This is at R50 fishing, so it _might_ be slightly off at lower levels. HOWEVER, at lower levels you wouldn't necessaraly meet the Rank/Dex/etc Requirements that the dev's indicated are requried for the jig location to remain 'constant'. It has been my result testing on literally thousands of jigs that there are 4 locations. Exact 50% belongs to position 2 (This is easy to test as pick a fish who has jig location 2 and spam ENTER on the keyboard so it jigs before the bar even fully loads. This ensures you are 50% exactly) During my jig location testing I would also check the 'extreme' range of those locations to ensure that they worked on the very ends. So, if something is say in location 4, it works at 75% all the way to 100% on the jig bar.

Wow, Truvy, excellent job!

Do you mind one suggestion? If you reduce the image color depth to 256 instead of millions of colors then there will be a barely noticeable difference in quality, but you will cut the size of the files by 75%, from a total of 850KB down to 220KB for the two combined! Keep them as PNG because JPG will make it fuzzy. It will make the forum thread a bit kinder on bandwidth and speed.

Still, very nicely done!

Thanks for all the work you are doing Turvy, it must be taking a lot of effort.

I will definitely have a go at the T-W5 spot you note, it seems easier to get there compared to the Isles of Umbra I have been using.

I would note you are missing a fish (kind of). Dart frogs can be fished up on the node at 16:19 in the North Shroud and also when doing the 'Fishing Emerald Moss' leve quest. Sweet point is +4 (one from the top) and they favour Crow Flys. When fishing them I haul them up when jigging right in the centre of the jig (basically I hit enter twice as quickly as possible). I assume the jig point is actually the same as River Crabs as the fishing for both is very similar.

Yeah dart frogs are in my next revision (been working from one zone to the next so Grid was on the list after Thanalan).

As far as leve fish are concerned, there are unique fish that are not part of this guide (at least not yet, likely a index in the back with refrence points to locations once the bulk of it is completed).

Jigging at straight 50% is considered position 2. and will work anywhere from 25% to 50% (again assuming R50 rank)

Next update will come at the early part of the week after the holiday. I thought Thanalan would be finished by now, but then i didn't realize our database was void of catches in southern Thanalan. So i've got to wait for fishing fatigue to wear of and head out to BW and hit some of the pools.

Hurray its an Update!!!!

Ok the OP has the link to the updated version of the document which includes:

* Southern Thanalan
* Fishing Indexes

You'll also note there are now 9 new Locations added to the Maps and Logs database for Southern Thanalan. Grid locations and available fish as well. Nothing super special of the area, minus one Grade 10 pool fairly easy to get to and with no agressive mobs around it (Save for the level 94 mobs in a cave to the north...not sure i've found anything bigger than what was in there >.>)

Dart Frogs ended up _not_ making the update as i had to spend considerable time in Southern Thanalan trying to get to all the pools. Eastern Thanalan is also awaiting some additional research...missing some Grade 10 pools around Sandgate (Stupid killer Inferno Drakes!!) and some more details on the Schools of Fish (mainly what fish are added to the list of Schools that you normally can't get once the school is depleted).

But things continue to progress. As always, any assistance in confirming bait and lure bites are welcome, see the OP for info on how you can help!

Thank you so much Truvy. I think it's not only great for this site but great for a game that's been through some hard times but is on it's way back with help not just from Square Enix but from it's player base and people like you which is absolutely of upmost importance.

Hi Truvy,

Excellent job! However, downloading the document and viewing it is not displaying the images. The images are visible in the Google document viewer though...

I'm using Word 2003 (SP3) to view with.

There is a background image on all the pages, and on the very last page is the saltwater lure image, but all the other images are just white placeholders - no images showing.

What format did you use?
