Dark Matter

OK so there are a bunch of new items called Dark Matter. They range from class 1 to 5 and are used to repair all items in the game (I have seen it compared to Duct Tape BigGrin )

But where can it be gotten from and what are the attributes?

From the lodestone and the 1.18 patch notes:

Grade 1 Dark Matter - Used to repair equipment for class ranks 1–10.
Grade 2 Dark Matter - Used to repair equipment for class ranks 11–20.
Grade 3 Dark Matter - Used to repair equipment for class ranks 21–30.
Grade 4 Dark Matter - Used to repair equipment for class ranks 31–40.
Grade 5 Dark Matter - Used to repair equipment for class ranks 41–50.

Dark Matter can be obtained from mining, fishing and botany and are extra items obtained much like crystals. The grade of the dark matter reflects the grade of the resource point you are currently gathering from. That is when gathering from a grade 1 resource point you will get grade 1 Dark Matter, if gathering from a grade 2 resource point you will get grade 2 Dark Matter etc.

It is said that it can also be bought from NPC vendors and through Guild Leves. You can buy them from the vendors in each city that sell the generic "DoL" equipment.

Limsa Lominsa: West Alley: Fousquenet
Gridania: Rosewood Stalls: Humphrey
Ul'dah: Tataroga

Grade 1 Dark Matter costs 100gil each, with Grade 5 going all the way up to about 4500 gil each.

I have checked a couple of items and have not been able to find any items needing more than one Dark Matter for repairing but this may not be correct either and if some one can tell me other wise please let me know.

That was a small wrap up on the Dark Matter. If you have anything to add let me know. I will try to get them into the database as soon as possible but it may be a while. Also be aware that all repairing materials mentioned in the database are now outdated.

Yay! Thanks kida! I didn't realize they were in such abundance. I hope i can fish up some dark matters for sure! Were you able to document how many dark matters you got per hour?

I can confirm it is also from Fishing, as guild leve rewards, can also get in chests during raids.

As for buying it, the only place I have seen it for sale is in the grand companies, as such it costs tokens/seals.

You can buy them from the vendors in each city that sell the generic "DoL" equipment. Look up Muddy Water on YG and it should show the NPC for each city. Grade 1 Dark Matter costs 100gil each, with Grade 5 going all the way up to about 4500 gil each.

And it seems like whichever Grade of resource you're harvesting from is what Grade of Dark Matter you'll get. I was doing some fishing at Iron Lake and got a Grade 5 one.

Thanks for the input guys... I have updated the OP.

Regarding how many Dark Matters gotten pr. hour I have nothing specific yet but they are not that common. You will get some but I will try to do some more testing.

I haven't really done much grind fishing since there's a lot of sidequests and Company stuff I've been doing, but since the patch, I think I've only caught one Dark Matter so far while doing my fishing leves.

I was chopping down dark matter at about a rate of 1 every 10k sp. (140sp/success). But I've only had 4 total before I hit gatherers fatigue :/

I got 3 from around 8 or so mining leves. I am guessing the drop rate is similar to deaspected crystals.

By the way, has anyone come across more crystals since the patch?

I haven't gotten any from gathering, but you can get them for killing Imperials in the miniquest that appears near camps sometimes.

Basically a NPC pops and starts warning about imperials being nearby. Go to them and there is another NPC which you can get a miniquest from to kill as many as possible. When you've done that, talk to him again and he gives you deaspected crystals.

Hmm, I haven't seen that yet, but I haven't been spending much time near camps either. Sounds a little bit like Behest in nature.

Received a Grade 4 Dark Matter fishing in a stream 24,29 West of Humblehearth not in a leve. Really nice fishing here at 25-26 using rat tails and Wildfowl flys.

One thing I have noticed lately is so many people needing not just high lvl but even low lvl repairs that require obviously dark matter and they offer up 1-2k. IMO.. just not worth the gil since gil is so easy to make and I need the dark matter for my own repairs and not burn through all my seals too fast.

I am kind of amazed at how many people just refuse to lvl up crafts.. as easy as it is in this game but for the most part I will not be repairing gear all the time and giving up my matter especially the higher grades. Can't they offer up dark matter for repairs as a reward?

The game isn't just using up their matter hidden and not telling us is it? I need to pay more attention next time but I would of sworn it took some from my stack the few times I repaired peoples gear.

They have to have seals for matter purchases or I guess just do not do any grand company stuff.. sorry just seems really freakin lazy and cheap to me.

Part of this game is repairing your own gear or having a ls with friends who lvl up crafts who can help you out. Some poor archer had alllll this gear damaged so badly. In the days he has sat in Uldah he could of lvl'd up the craft.

Poor guy just did not realize no one wanted to give up their higher lvl grade dark matter to fix his armor for lowly gil.

sorry for rant.. lol.
