These were found in the lake east of Camp Valium (errr, Camp Tranquil) in southern Forest:

Black Ghost

Box Turtle (This thing is a MONSTER to try to actually get out of the water.)

River Crab

Rainbow Trout

Black Eel

They were all 'school' fish at the time, so I don't know what's a common vs. school in this list.

Cool, I haven't seen the box turtle or black eel yet.

I'm actually kind of at an impasse now. I can fish up Grade 1 and Grade 2 without much effort with my weathered fishing rod, but once you get up to Grade 3, it's not quite cutting it anymore. I can sometimes weaken the fish down enough to see what it is, but I can't really pull them in often. I went to Cassiopeia Hollow (Grade 4) and simply couldn't catch anything there. So I'm at the point where I need a stronger rod.

I'm currently working on my carpentry since I can't ever find an Ash Fishing Rod in the market ward nor do I know anyone in my guild with high enough skill to make it it. If I can get my skill up within a decent amount of time and successfully create the rod, I can probably feed the site some more data before the open beta ends. (which as been announced to be Sept 19th now)

I've done a little grade three fishing for Western Thanalan and have  caught just about the same stuff there except for the Rainbow Trout and Black Eel.  But I have caught the Black Eel in a school at grade two for North Forest.

Cortez, it's best to avoid the Ash Fishing Rod, it is the exact same fishing rod as the Weathered Fishing Rod but with a different texture.  As far as I know no one has discovered how to craft a Willow Fishing Rod at the moment and the only way to come by them is by doing the rank 10 fishing guildleves.  You can get it either from a chest that appears during a guildleve or from the guildleve reward itself.

Yeah, I just found that out this afternoon about the Ash rod.  I just checked all three cities and none of the fishing guildleves had the rod as a reward.  :(

So I'm going to have to get lucky and have one pop from a chest or find one in the market ward.  I really want to pick one up so I can reliably catch Grade 3 fish and move on to possibly higher grade waters to fill out as much of the database as I can before launch.

By any chance are you on Lindblum?  I got a second one today, if so I'll donate it to you.  In nine days it won't be doing me any good.

Black eel can be caught in grade 2 waters  pretty rare.   box turtle same thing grade 2 waters on guild leve fishing emerald moss in gardania.  black ghost and river crab are lvl 3 but rainbow trout is lvl 1 just difficult to land.   I think this is all correct melthor goby is caught on the ferry I was using pill bugs but lugworm will probably work

hmm well I've been catching Rainbow Trout in grade 1 waters not far from Gridania along with tree toads and a brass loach.

can't seem to get the image inserted so here is the link for the trout pic.   Was at The Mirror lake 36/36.

also some other fish that I caught here in this pic.  Pipira, Striped Goby and the maiden I'm not sure what I got that.

I haven't done many lev-quests because something is qrong there...but I have fished all three areas a bit.

Grades 1, 2, 3, and 10.

The only difference I have found between 1 and 10 so-far, is that 10 requires more trys at casting.  It does not seem to be much harder to land them.  I think the second "jig" occurs a little more often at 10; just jig and then proceed as usual.

Like I said somewhere before I have caught between 30-50 varities of shell and regular fish.  From fighting fish to clams...some salmon and trout, frogs and carp. A fair number of plus 1 and a few plus3's.

If u are losing them, perhaps you are TOO GOOD of a fisherman--from the FFX XI days?  You might be overworking or overthinking the prey at this point in the game.

Suffice to say I am a fair fisherman (in the past) not a good one--and landing the fish is pretty easy...at least through Rank 10 and into 11.

good luck and good fishing

nice info ^ thank you. I'll have to make my way to some grade 3 waters today. I still would like a stronger rod that this starter rod we all have. I was getting pretty much 0 bites in the 1 grade 3 area I found and I tried 3 different baits.

I was wondering what bait ya'll were using for grade 3 fresh or saltwater?

in regards to the Willow rod talked about above in this thread.  I know this was back on the 10th but idk if you ever found the leve quest that gives this as a reward:

Not sure if you all aware, but the ash rod was changed in retail from beta. It is level 7 and better than weathered.
