First time post so not sure if this is where it should be but. With the new patch and new ore i went out to test it. This is what i found out. Cobalt Ore sweet spot seems to be -4. But that's not all. Mining seems to have a pattern now. From these nodes at -4 Iron ore seems to be mined between 50-65 on the approach . Cobalt ore seems to be at 75-85 while Brimstone is at the 40-30 mark with gems being at 10. Not sure if it is just me or was changed to do this. Good info. Kida is making changes to the site to reflect this huge update so check back and he'll have things worked out for us. |

Not sure whether I was just getting really lucky or if the margins for error in hitting an item have just gotten a lot wider too. I had two 30+ Mining leves (I'm 27 mining) carried over from before the update and I did these first when I logged in, and I got items on my first swing 14/15 times (Uldah T4 mining points). Seemed the margin for error was so wide that if I aimed for 50% on the gauge I'd only really miss if the item was right at one end... Planned to go back and do some testing with some refreshed leves, but got stalled as after I took my 8 crafting leves, I found I could now only accept 8 leves total . |

This is what I read about leves now ^ The manner of accepting levequests has changed significantly. Every 12 hours (Earth time) players will earn four "leve allowances" (up to a maximum of 99) which can be exchanged for guildleves at Adventurers' Guilds. After patch 1.19 is implemented, players can receive their initial allocation of 8 leves by visiting the Adventurers' Guild, after which time their leve allowance will accumulate at the abovementioned rate. * Leve allowances are required to accept all types of leves, including regional, local, faction, and the newly added company leves. * While players can stock up to 99 leve allowances, they may still only accept 8 local and 8 regional levequests at any one time. Ahh, that would make sense then. Where I am at the moment, I cant access Lodestone or any official forums so I'm missing the actual update notes. Soooo, if we are effectively issued with 4 leves "permits" every 12 hours, how often does the leve list reset (ie If I take 2xL20 and 2xL30 mining leves, when will they be available for selection again?) Still 36 hours? of when the next 4 leve permits are issued? Would be kinda nice to be able to do 4 leves in one dscipline every 12 hours... Edited by user Wednesday, October 05, 2011 7:57:56 PM(UTC)

a couple questions on this...
1. where do you mine cobalt ore at? the op stated cedarwood but dol website shows nothing there....
2. i noticed that alot of the recipes now have level 0 by them? This means what?
3. I also notice that when you look at yg for the description of an item...(such as cobalt ore) it says "this item is no longer found" .. Does this mean they are phasing out the item or what?
Thanks for any specific info

I will pass on your #2 question to Kida since it's site technical related somewhat and I'm sure he'll see it anyway. As far as Cobalt Ore if you use the Item option at the top toolbar, enter Cobalt Ore then click Find and then click Cobalt Ore when it comes up you will go to the item page. From the screenshot below you will see I clicked the Resource points tab to get all the spots. Cedarwood and Iron Lake were also mentioned in the lodestone 1.19 notes for Cobalt Ore in the new items section.
Cobalt Ore is a new item. Can't tell you why YG's site says that. Edited by user Monday, October 17, 2011 5:40:50 AM(UTC)

YG is still going under a massive overhaul on updates so it's not reliable unless you're looking for pre-1.19 recipes.
I can also confirm what was said earlier in the thread about where you approach an item from is static now. I've been doing a lot of mining this weekend to support my armorsmith, and I was always getting the result I expected based on the stamina of item and where I approached it from. |

The depths are a little weird at the moment. I mined for a number of hours at the end of last week in the Level 4 area outside of Ul'dah, and every point had iron and alumen at ~60%, electrum at ~15% and amber and zircon at ~5% to the point where I was hitting them all first time for hours on end, both during leves and on free points.
Today I went back and did the standard "investigate three points" leve (seems to only give iron and alumen at L33) and about half the time the iron was at ~25%. I thought it had moved, but kept hitting 60% and still sometimes found iron there too.
It seems to be too consistent to be random, but also occasionally there seems to be some randomness thrown in for good measure, (or they're still trying different ideas).
Fixed depths really helped, because zircon and amber were taking two swings to extract, and I was only getting two swings at the gems, so I would have hardly got any had I not known where they were. It did make mining pretty easy though... |
