How do you think fishing will be in FFXIV. I have some idea it will be pretty much the same as FFXI but I really hope they have made some changes. I have spent a lot of time fishing in FFXI and I am going to do the same in FFXIV.

Even though I loved fishing in FFXI it would be great to see something new. It would be awesome if there were some changes even though I don't quite know what they should be.

To be honest I think it will be pretty much the same as in FFXI. I think they will make some changes as to how you level. I hope it will be a bit faster than when FFXI came out first. It took such a long time to level up but at least there was a bonus to leveling up. I would love to see some kind of reward for being high leveled. It should be possible to catch the low level fish very fast or something. You don't see a level 85 black mage spending as long time on a low level mob as a high level mob. Why should fishing be any different. I want to be a high level fisher and be rewarded for it. Buying the best rod shouldn't be the way to be able to catch Gugrusaurus.

I really hope they will reward the people who are willing to put in an effort. The other crafts had highlevel items, fishers should as well.

I agree. I think it is important that there is a difference between starting out and being a high level fisherman. This also go for the other activities like mining and harvesting. If you have done it a lot you should be able to do it better. That would only make sense.

Do you think it will be a "manual system" like in FFXI where you actually had to have some skills in order to catch the fish or will it be like in WoW where all you have to do is pull in the line at the right moment.

What I loved most about fishing in FFXI was that you actually had to be active in order to reel anything in. Some of the high level fish were extremely hard for me to catch. I bought a game pad which made it easier but still not as easy as for example WoW fishing.

The following changes and additions have been made to the gathering system:
The fisher class will be able to use the actions "Fish" and "Spearfish."

Yes it looks very interesting. I saw this as well. Apparently there are two ways to do all the DoL. A slow and a quick way. The slow will be a kind of mini game where you fill out some settings and try to do it better and get closer to the mark all the time (see some of the movies in the news section) and the other one will be a quick: Do this and see what happens. The quick way should give some more common items while the other method should yield the more rare items.

This is (unfortunately) all unconfirmed but I can't wait to see how it will work out.

1st night of fishing.

Began as a fisher so I had a rod and 99 bloodworms from beginning.
Found a nice spot inside Limsa and began fishing. First 5 casts rewarded me with a fish!

Also did a fishing Leve quest, located the guild and did some more fishing.

Right now I'm thinking that jigging far right/left could give the fish line and jigging more in the center area pulls the fish closer..

Got to rank 5 - both fishing skill and physical (or was this 4..). Caught at least 4 types of fishies. And a rat almost killed me.

Got the key from latest German raffle :)

Too bad this beta phase ends pretty soon.. "The current Beta Test Phase 3 (Beta 3) will end on August 25 at 5:00pm (PDT), and we plan to start the Open Beta Test in early September."

Fishing at Grade 1 area. Pier next to Fishing guild (Limsa Lominsa).
Bought a Chocobo Fly. Caught only Malm Kelp.. So this is not optimal lure here :)

One interesting thing: I noticed by accident that I don't have to wait for a nibble/bite when fishing Kelp only (makes sense) just jig immediately. --> good way for faster skillups?

Another spot (39x24), grade 1 area.
Lure: Floating Minnow.
Caught:
Merlthor Goby
3x Tiger Cod
Malm Kelp
3x Vongola Clams

Same fish in every grade 1 (sea)area? Tried to go to a lake area (Bronze Lake), but it was unaccesible right now.

Bloodworms @ (39x24)
result: 3xtiger cod, 2 vongola clams+1, merlthor goby, 2xtiger cod+1, "felt like ocean cloud".

Read on epedia that fishing changed in open beta.
No more wait after you cast your line and there seems to be no more guessing at the initial bite.
Can't wait to give it a try. Have to finish some leves first tho to get some gil to buy fishing gear. Which got quite a bit more expensive compared with the prices in closed beta.

I have been fishing today and I really enjoy it. Started as fisher so had bait and so on... was able to make rank 5 within 3 hours (doing other things as well).

I have caught all the fish in Limsa Lominsa that I have heard others catch and going back into the game now to do some more...

I'm glad that they fixed fishing from the closed beta version.  In CB, the stamina bar would only appear maybe 5% of the time after you get a bite.  Now it occurs everytime, giving you the probability of catching something everytime.

I'm currently experimenting with all of the store purchaseable bait in areas where I'm capable of fishing.  I'm going to look into having one of those lures made with weaving (crow fly?), and I've also caught a bunch of crayfish and I'll probably have some crayfish balls made to test those out as well.
