EDIT 10-10-2010: Re-did fix for squares new recipe xp formula, had it wrong.

To calculate XP we need a few numbers, first the starting quality of the craft.  This is a little random, but also changes with +1/+2/+3 items.  We subtract the starting quality from the ending quality to get the second part of the XP amount.  Then add to the first part of XP amount, which is always 1000.

Then we take off 5% for each rank above the recipe rank, and add 5% for each rank below the recipe rank.  This is the XP you recieve, unless it's a levequest recipe.  If it is a levequest recipe, you then multiply by 1.5.

Unfortunatly, fishing/logging/mining doesn't work this way.  It seems the XP gained is based on your rank and the grade of the node.  Fish seem to have different ranks, but this method doesn't work to find the rank the catch is.

TL;DR

Simple spreadsheet.  Please only change yellow cells. Feel free to copy.  http://bit.ly/di9GKd

I think I have this working again. Square and their adding randomness to their XP. Also, they changed the formula a bit. Still testing a bit, but looks good.

Fixed again, hopefully for last time. Although will require an update to re-add lower ranks later if it's still working correctly after more testing.

Now allows for entering:
levequest synths, as long as you divide XP by 1.5 (for instance if you recieved 1660 XP, enter "=1660/1.5", without the double quotes, in the XP cell).
synths that ranked you up, enter your rank after the synth and rank up.
+1/+2/+3 items, starting quality isn't counted.

Do you have an alias over at Zam?
I would like to link this in my sig over there, theres alot of people wondering about recipie ranks.
Also is there no direct corelation between skill points and the exp you recieve?

Sorry for late reply, must have missed thread update...

No zam account, sorry.

As for skill points, it accounts for more than just the ranks. For instance, I believe letting a recipe go unstable, then restablizing gives extra SP. And since I've figured out how to tell from physical XP, I haven't bothered looking at SP anymore.
