I was following the fishing guide and fishing in the recommended areas around Limsa Lominsa, and, I must say, I've been leveling fairly quickly and easily. I wanted to point out that on the coast of Bloodshore, I was netting 140-160 EXP per catch until level 28. At level 28 the EXP halved so I decided to move on. At level 28 I am getting 300 EXP per catch in grade 4 fishing spots.

The reason I am posting this is to help out players that might have moved on to grade 4 fishing spots at level 23 but found it difficult to catch the fish there.

I should note that I'm not using ANY fishing gear, and I've been using a Yew Fishind Rod since level 15. If I don't count the "Nothing bites." messages, I have a success rate of over 90% with my current setup. I'm also still using the cheap 2 gil Lugworms.

I hope this helps someone!

Some of the information in the fishing guide is probably inaccurate since the xp calculations changed in 1.19. Now, if you attempt to do anything a certain level of difficulty over your level you'll find that you'll fail more often than not. Back in the day you kind of had to swap to Grade 4 in the early 20s to keep getting a decent amount of xp. Thanks for pointing this out though. :)

I'm at 19 now and fishing at Bloodshore is a breeze! I get around 250exp per catch now, sometimes even 300, and from your numbers it seems like it won't dwindle down too fast at least. I was afraid it would drop massively when I hit 20.

Bloodshore is so nice since the coast is near the camp, so I can get crafting support easily and do some alchemy if I want a break from fishing. And the scenery! Love the spot. ^^

Well, I'm a Rank 42 Fisher and I'm not really liking the exp I'm getting right now. Are there any higher level options than the rank 5 spot I use? Or are the rank 6+ spots broken now?

Rank 5 is the highest one now, yeah. Prolly best to get comfortable. Tongue

My strategy for when I hit 40+: Let leve allowances accumulate for a few days, and then spam fishing leves like no tomorrow! I'd do that more now too if I had a chocobo... Ran out of anima. ^^;

There is no longer any R6-10 fishing spots in the game. They have all been changed to G1.

IIRC there was a dev post a while back saying that they are planning on releasing G6 at some point, the problem is they don't have anything to fill them with yet (since they need ones for botanist and miner as well as fisher, otherwise it is unfair).

So as it currently stands, the only way to get to R50 is grind out G5 and/or fishing leves.
