So far we have no information on depth in the database at all. The problem is that there really aren't any concrete proof so far that this has any effect on the results. I know this is something that needs to be investigated but I don't really know how to go about this.
I considered making a page where results could be posted. I thought something like this:
Location: drop with options
Watertype: Freshwater vs Saltwater
Bait used: drop with available tackle
Rod: List of all rods
School: Indicating whether or not fishing in a school
Rank: rank of person fishing
Grade: Grade of water
Result: what was actually caught
Count: How many of the fish was caught
Quality: +1, +2, +3
Depth: drop with options -5 to 5
This would mean that people would have to use this form when fishing to get a statistical insight into what the depth could mean. Also we could get a lot of information on rank versus result/high quality and so on.
The question is: Would you guys be willing to play in windowed mode and do this? There would be a need for a HUGE amount of information before anything solid could be proven and there is the possibility that it would be abused (someone claiming to catch 100 crayfish at some depth by clicking 100 times). I would make it so that only registered members could submit and I would give 1 point for each submission. Is there any interest in this and would you be willing to help out?
Only the last four options would have to be changed when catching something but it would still mean some work.
Please let me know if I should make this. The information could be excellent if something could be proven. At least information on bait and rod would be great to have as that is already being mapped.
EDIT: 2011-01-21This is an old post... the log was implemented, changed, then changed again... and it will be changed again... Depth is now very factual and the original purpose of the log has been diminished. The log is still very important in regards to gather information on weather, moonphases, locations and so forth so please still use it
