I have not been playing too much since release but there has certainly been some changes.

1) Guild leves are not nearly as attractive any more. I did the Fishing Bearded Rock and in Open Beta I would receive 6-700 skill points when ever I caught a fish. Now I am lucky if I get 150.

2) You nearly get no high quality items. I have a bag full of fish and not a single +1. This has been seriously reduced as I got tons of these in open beta.

Now I am not complaining about these changes but it definetly makes it a lot harder to level up and make some money. I hope that the work that needs to be put into fishing pays out when reaching the higher levels.

Is this the same with mining and harvesting and what about crafting. Do the other classes have a harder time as well?

Fishing seems...harder. Not skill wise, but actually landing a fish. I'm fishing in LL right now as Rank 8 and the fish are completely draining my stamina in one jig. I didn't have nearly this much trouble in OB.

I've also checked the Rank 10 guildleves 3 times now and not one has had a new fishing rod. Equipment rewards from leves have been reduced in general it seems.

Also, the Ash Fishing Rod's stats have been adjusted to be better than Weathered Fishing Rod, so it is worth looking into getting one of those now. Unfortunately I still have my Weathered rod, but I'd think if I were catching these fish just fine before, that a lower grade rod at a higher rank should still have the same effect on lower level fish.

I have noticed the same about the gathering classes. As for crafting, its gotten easier to xp and finish a synth, but harder to HQ.

I am still getting 500+ skill points for guildleves I do, depending on the type of guildleve. Usually on the collect 3 of X fish, I get the 500+ skill points.

I can't comment on the HQ items because I cannot remember how much HQ catches I had in open/closed beta.

Hi Skiz... You are right that you get a lot of extra skill points when doing the leve quest that requires an item. But you will only get it for that single item. In open beta you would get (a lot of) extra skill points for all items caught while doing leve quests...

I think that the way the system is now is the "correct" way. I know they boosted skill points in open beta in order to get some high level people in there. It just felt so nerfed fishing after having tried that crazy open beta ride LOL.

I think the early levels are really quickly done still and I have not had troubles catching fish. I am also starting to pull in a lot more HQ items after having gained some rank. At rank 6 they started appearing and at level 8 they got more consistent. Only bad thing about that is that it takes up a lot of space in the inventory.

I'm more concerned about the rate of unsuccessful jigs being the "correct" way.  A couple of days ago was the last time I was fishing at Rank 8 in Limsa Lominsa, and if I didn't jig the fish in exactly the perfect spot, the stamina bar totally depleted.  Before the 9/23 patch, I had about 3-4 tries like with logging or mining before failing to catch a fish.

I really hope they change this back, because it's going to make fishing even more of a time sink than it already is.  I'm liable to cancel my subscription over this because fishing was one of the things I looked forward to, and I don't like this reversal back to the way it was working in closed beta.

A note on declining fishing skillups...

I can't verify if I am correct...but gear wear seems to GREATLY affect all things.

My fishing went way down 2 days ago,,,and some places are harder to land than others.

When I hit 12, the amout of FSH skill hit the skids...

As for landing...it's a crapshoot so far.

Sometimes if u move depth it will work out, other times...no deals.

There are just times--And I have noticed it in certain areas--When it forces double jigging.

And so far it does not make the sense u think it should if u based your thoughts on previous fishing experience.

My FSH in going up very slowly now--14 for a bit.

But boy-howdy---My dam physical is almost 22!  There's got to be some fixes in the works I expect.

good luck and good fishin'
