Just having a wander around the site to see if there is anything I have missed, catch up on the latest thoughts and reasoning and to gain a bit more insight into potential materia use and I came across this rod. I have not seen this rod on the wards and I am not aware of any quest or lev that can produce the rod and looking at the intial stats I would asume that this is no ordinary rod and can see a Lu Shang's quest on the horizon.

http://www.disciplesofth...m/ItemView.aspx?id=23913

Other than what is listed on the stats does anyone have any more info on this rod and how to obtain it.

Yes BigGrin

I have a lot of information regarding Rod of the Luminary. This is what would be called the über rod at the moment for Final Fantasy XIV and it was added in patch 1.20. The rod has by far the best stats of any rods and is a part of the luminary tools that have been implemented. There is one for each gathering and crafting class.

The way to obtain Rod of the Luminary is NOT all that easy and will require a lot of work. To be exact you will have catch one or more fish 21,960 times to get it (takes quite a while). The Rod of the Luminary is a reward for completing all the achievements for main hand fishing:

4,000 gatherings in each of the three main zones grade 5 areas
2,000 gatherings in each of the three main zones grade 4 areas
1,000 gatherings in each of the three main zones grade 3 areas
300 gatherings in each of the three main zones grade 2 areas
20 gatherings in each of the three main zones grade 1 areas

In all: 7,320 * 3 = 21,960 gatherings

So what this means is that you will have to go to more or less all of the areas of FFXIV and fish.

BUT (important): Before you start doing this talk to Rebeccah at the Golden Bazar in Thanalan (Drybone - 37 x 19). She will unlock gathering achievements and let you start accumulating points for the rod.

Once you have done ALL of this go back to Rebeccah and she will give you a new title and the Rod of the Luminary as a reward (and then you can start all over for mining or botany Scared )

I am not sure but I am pretty certain that no one has yet obtained this rod but I guess it won't be long before we see it pop up here and there in Eorzea Laugh .

Good luck and I hope you have the patience if you really want the rod. I should add that getting it won't really do much for you as a fisher as the stats are not all that useful until higher grade fishing spots are implemented or they make some quest where the rod is required. If you are level 1 fisher you will do many of the achievements any way as you level up but many level 50 fishers are not going to do this as they will have to more or less start all over again.

The Rod of the Luminary is mostly for the bragging rights at the moment but as FFXIV develops SE may implement new achievements that is not attainable unless you have completed the above. No one knows, only time will tell.

Good luck

I'm not 100% sure on this, but I'm pretty sure you don't have to talk to her beforehand to get credit for gathers. You just obviously won't be able to view your progress or receive notifications for completion until you do, just like any other achievement. If you do gathering beforehand (post 1.20, that is), it'll probably just give you any earned achievements retroactively.

Well, Kida pretty much filled in all you could probably want to know about the rod, so I'm going to put this on a slight detour. Maybe I should make a new thread /shrug. I would love to hear some peoples' progress toward this or any other DoL luminary.

As a Botanist, I'm only ~2,700 gathers into my luminary (all grade 1, all grade 2, and 2/3 grade 3). 2,700 gathers out of 21,960 only puts me at ~12%, which is rather depressing.

I haven't been keeping track of how much time I've spent on it, otherwise I would provide that data too, to give some sort of estimate for how long it might take to achieve. A while back I estimated 3 minutes per 8 gathers, which puts obtaining a luminary at a dedicated 137.25 hours.

I can average about 70-75 catches per hour in non-school waters. If you divide the total catches by 75 that's 292.5 hours. I haven't exactly done a time study to see if it's any faster running in between schools, but the only location I've been to where it seems feasible is in Nine Ivies.

I was planning on going after this rod as a primary focus, but I know now it just isn't going to happen anytime soon. It would take almost two months of just fishing with the amount of time I play per day just to get that rod. Actually, with how things are now, I'm probably going to cancel my account until the job patch comes out. The achievements really aren't doing it for me and I don't exactly feel like doing Moogle a hundred times for a weapon that's a sidegrade to what I already have. That, and I've been sucked into playing Xenoblade on emulator, which is a GREAT game by the way.

Yea I'm tempted to go after it myself, but like Orophin i'm probably going to cancel my payment at first. Working 7days/week at the moment and would be pointless paying when I haven't even been on XIV lol.

Would certainly love to have it though :D

I am currently on app 1600 on Rod of the Luminary. and yes it is going to take a looong time. i already feel like i have been doing it forever. Fishing takes longer than botany apparently because I also go for 65 - 75 per hour. I will see if I can keep it up as I really want to do this. Also I believe they may expand on the achievements later and you will need to have done it.

There are non school G5 fishing spots in the shroud. Check the maps link at the top toolbar on this forum and filter it for F spots.

Also, you should be able to finish a school and then recast and fish that spot again.

About a month ago I got back to the game, achievements were there and since the very first thing I did in ffxi was getting my Lu Shang (I didn't want to play the game so I figured that would spite my brother... I did it in 6 months and never stopped fishing/crafting :p) I figured of all things to do I HAVE to get this rod. I'm getting close to finishing my first zone, so still 2 to go :(

I did see someone on my current server, istory, with the rod already. I stood there drooling for a while before I could ask anything and she disappeared before I could ask anything :(

Hi Brân and welcome to the site. Nice to have one more of the ffxi'ers on this site.

Awesome that you saw one of these rods. Someone must have been working full time to get it so soon. I wonder how many are out there.

spoke to a lalafell on rabanastre the other nite claiming it took him 7 weeks to obtain the luminary rod 14hrs a day fishing. im a bit sceptical about that maybe its true who knows but i got this nagging feeling that it wasnt obtained legit.

He he well you never know. There are some people out there who have a lot of time and patience but that really is a lot of fishing. 14 hours a day for 7 weeks is almost 700 hours of fishing. If you catch 60 fish every hour that will be app. 42,000 catces. If you add some breaks for eating and so on it may be right. Its hard to tell but there could be some botting involved. I dont want to blame anyone for botting as it is doable in 7 weeks.

The funny thing about these things is that if you calculate the price of the rod in real money the price is absurd. Imagine that instead of fishing for the rod he/she had had a real job instead earning 10 bucks an hour that rod costs 7000 dollars. You dont want to do calculations like that BigGrin

Ugh... All I have done so far is to unlock the 18 rank 1 achievements for all three DoL.

This is going to take years!

I also don't want to tempt anyone towards botting, but i got a couple people to explain to me how they were able to get this rod so quickly. Apparently you can fish around 1400 successful attempts on average in a 24 hr period...you do the math. Can be done in just under 3 weeks. That being said, i really hope they start cracking down on all the bots that appear to be working in game or real players are gonna lose interest. Just my two cents.

My previous comment was uncalled for as there are players who have their own pace and to each his own if you have more time or not.

Botters and rmt don't bother me in this game as much as they did in FFXI. I just don't notice them very much but I'd never do it. I don't get botting in these games. Where is the reward or self satisfaction once you get it? Guess it's just me. I see mmorpg's as a series of long term and short term goals but nothing that I want to go to bed and wake up and have done by some script/program.

So if you treat it like a job and spend 8hrs a day doing this in just under 18 days you can get it :)

Just think of how many Fish/Logs/Ore you'll have to make bank on! lol

I finally did get my Rod of the Luminary and now that I have it I am never going to fish again. It takes so much time and the process is really mind numbing.

But it looks great and I am proud that I got it. So ... yay BigGrin

I have picked up ALC and CUL as I have accumulated a ton of fish and this is just great for leveling those jobs. I guess I should work on a warrior class as well. I still only have the MAR at 27 so I guess I have some way to go on that front Smile
