The title says it all. And since I´m new to the game, I wonder if I have to make a DoL to be the best fisher I wanna be, or if i can do it with my conjurer and still do well? What´s the actaull difference between the two? And do I need a DoH to be able to be the best crafter? Meaning would I have to have one DoL to collect resources for my DoH, and have my Conjurer etc for kicks? Sry for being so nOObish. :P

I assume your question is from the point of view of someone who is just starting the game. Your initial class selection in no way affects what you are capable of doing, it merely picks which class you'll be on when you enter the world. You can switch classes (provided you have the appropriate weapon/tool) at any time, so to answer your question directly: No, you can be whatever you want to be and switch at any time. You can be the best at every class, all on a single character.

Ahh, sweet. Many thx. And what stats should I go for when it comes to bot and min? I know dex and pie was for fishing. Is there stats that makes the outcome for bot and min better?

Gathering / Output / Perception applies to all DoL jobs.

As for base stats, it's STR + INT for BTN, and VIT + MND for MIN.

Here is a post on the Lodestone which details what each stat does for DoL.

Welcome Lahuzer!

Unfortunately DoL is in a state of flux and just a shadow of what it used to be since they greatly simplified synthesis recipes. DoL is scheduled to come back in force in version 2.0, slated for the end of the year. However, do not let this put you off! You can level now and reap the rewards later!

Output does not have much of an effect anymore. It used to control how much of an item drops, but important items are now limited to one, and only one, drop.

Perception increases the chance of a rare drop, but at lower levels there is nothing really rare.

So my personal opinion is to not bother much with those two stats until you are very high level.

Output affects the number of times you can gather at a single node, not item quantity. Item quantity is affected by one of the base stats (INT/MND/PIE).

Perception affects the chances of getting HQ items, not "rare drops", unless HQ is what you meant by "rare drops".

I can see why you might say perception isn't terribly important at low levels, but output certainly is.

Yes, for now, Output is by far the most valuable stat for gatherers. Getting 5 attempts at a node before moving on instead of 3 (for example) is a tremendous time saver.

Gathering gives you more chances in the hot-and-cold mini game. That used to be much more important, but with most items in fixed locations (once you are high enough level to be gathering a particular rank node), you really shouldn't need more than two guesses. Still, in some level ranges that can be very important
