Fishing locations in Final Fantasy XIV

This is meant to be a complete list of all fishing locations in Final Fantasy XIV excluding areas that are currently above grade 5 but have locations with grade 1 fishing. These may be added at a later time but currently these are just a reflection of the grade 1 area of the map and therefore seem irrelevant to this post. The information will be used to update the maps of fishing locations in Final Fantasy XIV you can find here

I am currently trying to visit all the fishing locations in Final Fantasy XIV to document the fish that can be caught at these places. Below you will find all the information that has been gathered so far. The information has been gathered by the users of this site since the release back in 2010. Unlike information about logging and mining SE provides no help regarding fishing when patches are implemented. Therefore I thought it was time to make sure that all this information is correct. So I am asking for help... currently only the green fish have been confirmed and the red ones have not. If you are able please try to test out some of these locations and confirm all the fish you can. I know there are errors below and but I want to get this information 100 percent accurate.

Currently it is believed that schools may hold different fish even though they are within the same are ie. in La Noscea G3 Bloodshore there are 3 schools of fish. They may contain different fish. Therefore it is very important that when you submit information you write about what fish you caught AND what school (if any) you caught it at.

I can not use the information if I don't know what school the fish has been caught in. The same applies if you catch a fish outside a school. Just write: General fishing.

Also be aware that there may be more than one area with a certain grade. This goes for Black Shroud where both Nine Ivies and Treespeak is grade 5 or La Noscea where Iron Lake and Bald Knoll is also both grade 5.

So all in all the information I want should look something like this:

La Noscea
Grade 3 - Bloodshore
School 2
Confirmed: Bianaq Bream and Rothlyt Oyster.

or

Thanalan
Grade 1 - Black Brush
General fishing
Missing: Brass Loach

Other than that I will just say that I hope you will help me out in documenting this information and thank you all in advance.

Great job! My wife does fishing on occasion, and I've had trouble giving her a good place to look for concrete fishing info, so this is laid out very well.

You're probably safe to assume that schools all contain mostly the same fish. They normalized it for BTN/MIN, and all of your confirmed data seems to be pointing to the same ~6 per school in each zone. That said, while gathering Botany data, I did notice a few zones that had items that were mutually exclusive (i.e. if you can get Coerthas Carrots from a tree, you can't get Cock feathers), but for the most part they were all the same.

One question though; are you checking spearfishing as well? If you are, one thing I've noticed in my time gathering botany data is that if there are more than four different items that can be obtained in an area with offhand gathering, then they frequently have a couple items per zone that are mutually exclusive like the carrot/feather example above.

The most important thing I can mention to you is to make sure people know not to give you data while doing a levequest. Ever since 1.20 hit, levequests have contained old 1.19 data and should be disregarded (or data kept separately, if you want). I've received a few correction reports to my Botany data, and each time it's always been someone reporting on results found during a guildleve.

Hmm...I was going to go mining for some mythril tonight, but maybe I'll just buy some for my spirit bond gear and play the fishing game...

All GENERAL FISHING (non-Gulleye found waters) waters for an area contain the same items. I posted in another thread (and Kida pointed this out in the original post) that some SCHOOLS do vary in which items they contain. I personally saw this in Cedarwood, and once I gather some data this should be apparent.

As far as spearfishing goes, I don't think I've paid much attention to each node, but I think you're right about that. I was harvesting in Tranquil the other night for Maiden's Mistletoe, and I found that it was only gatherable at the NE harvesting node. I think I was only finding cabbage at that one too.

I don't think Sandfish is caught here. Caught several fish but never got a sandfish. Everything else confirmed.

School 3
Everything listed confirmed

I'll update as I complete more data.

Since I'm doing the LUM thing I can at least confirm these, just left grade 3 and been fishing at 4 for a decent time (about 900 catches already yay). Didn't try the docks =[

Black Ghost
Box Turtle
Crayfish
Dark Bass
River Crab

Grade 4 - Nophica’s wells

General fishing

Grade 5 - Halatali

General fishing
Ala Mhigan Fighting Fish
Black Ghost
Bone Crayfish
Crayfish
Velodyna Carp

Can also confirm these now, the bite rate on the Fighting Fish seems pretty low, but black ghost and velodyna bite a lot, almost as much as the crayfishies.

I got so bored now I figured I might as well check out the schools in the area here. I can only find 2 schools here in Halatali tho.

The fish in the schools are quite a bit different too. I can't for the life of me catch the 5th fish (there has to be a 5th right?) in school 1 but I'll keep catching till I have either that or the Lum :p
Edit: Found it, black eel!

School 1:
crimson crayfish
velodyna carp
crayfish
striped goby
black eel

School 2:
crimson crayfish
velodyna carp
dark bass
black eel
crayfish

BTN/MIN rarely have 5 total items to gather from a single point, so I'm sure it's possible that there's only 4.

I should really stop trying to apply BTN/MIN logic to FSH though.

I just found it ^^
It was black eel, but with a bite rate of 1 in 469 attempts there's probably better places for those :)

Hi, I'm new to Final Fantasy XIV, and this site, looks great! I plan to spend a lot of time here and will help out on the info gathering where ever possible.

Can anyone tell me how the "Gulleye I, II, III" Trait works? The icon has an X like you would see the schools on the mini map, like in botany, but it did not work. What am I doing wrong?

Hi there and welcome. You posted in a pre 2.0 thread that was over a year old, not quite the place to do so ;)

As for Gulleye, its a trait and doesn't get used, it simply allows you to fish in those level's of water.

Going to go ahead and lock this thread since we have more recent threads discussing fishing in ARR.
