New MMO Culture Interview with YoshiSeptember to October - Closed Alpha October to November - Closed Beta 1 November to December - Closed Beta 2 January - Open Beta 3 This means that if you are not picked for Alpha or Beta then no more FFXIV at all until next year.

looks like I picked a good time to start back on ffxi cause I have no interest in playing a beta again. Looks like I'll be starting back on 14 on ps3. |

There was an application form to apply for the Beta if you attended the Japan expo they had in France recently.

eh.. I guess I would be open to the beta process again. I can at least give my feedback if nothing else and see how things are looking. I am excited for 2.0 either way. Probably start getting jealous of beta testers during the Fall... |

buddy of mine that I played 11 with since 2004 told me he's coming to 14 on ps3 so can't wait until next year. Gonna be like starting whole new game over again with him but he'll never do DoL... gets bored too easily. lol. |

I imagine they are going to do total character wipes to bring things in line for 2.0.
Sadness they had to go down this road. I hope they give us in the states a chance to apply for testing.

They won't wipe... as Raldo said they have on many occasions explained that one of the reasons it takes so long to get from 1.x to 2.0 is that they need time to convert all the player data.
So just keep fishing :D
There will be some things not available to new players in 2.0 though. Gobbue mount and certain achievements can no longer be found in the game and will have to be completed before 2.0 is launched. |

a friend just gave me a link to this page and i felt the urge to create an account just to reply  SE have released road maps of what is going to be happening. That 3 month closed beta period u are talking about is for the PS3 not for the PC. The beta for PC becoz is not being done as normal. When the switch first happens the servers will be closed for a short time while the make the switch. They will then start transfer the data across. Active player characters will take priority. The beta period for the PC is the free trial period. As soon as ur character is transfered you will be able to use it to play. You will have to use a random beta character until then. If your lucky you will be one of the first few and maybe even have ur character before your friends. If not you might be waiting a while :P For SE to stop current players from playing and kick them out of the game for 3 months would be suicidal. Especially since guild wars 2 is coming out this month players would give SE the finger back and move on to another game. Then they would get into that game a little to much and not wanna come back.
