Well I liked spear fishing. I hope they replace it with something else secondary. So many other aspects to fishing.. you need something else. |

The whole fishing system is being overhauled. All lures are being removed as well. In fact, all consumable items like lures, throwing knives, and arrows are being removed.
Apparently there are some really beautiful rods and gear coming though! They are turning the gathering classes into proper distinct classes.
Note that Yoshi said going forward you must have at least one battle class as well.
Also, new players, or if you are rolling a new character, can only pick a battle class as a starting class. Gathering classes only become available after level 10.

This is very interesting and I can't wait to see what they are going to do. I saw that they are removing the achievements for spearfishing but I really hope they ad something else in its place. Would be strange if this is the only DoL/DoH class with no secondary tool. I also saw that they are removing all the bait and lures (along with arrows and throwing weapons) and I really hope that this means that we are getting a new line of bait and lures. I doubt it though as they reason to remove them was that costprices needed to be reduced to one tenth and they wouldn't be able to make decimal prices. I think focusing on battle classes for the main story seems logical but I really like the fact that you actually didn't need to do it. I have well above 500 levels by now and only 43 of them are battle classes, divided on three classes with marauder being the highest with 28 LOL. I still feel as part of the world even though I am not slaying mobs and I hope this will continue although waiting to level 10 for getting gathering and crafting classes seems strange. I can't see how this makes sense from a roleplaying point of view. But... we will have to wait and see what happens. Yes there will be new lures. Items Converted to Gil The following items will be automatically converted to gil. The exchange rate will be calculated based on current NPC vendor prices and reduced to 1/10 of their current prices in accordance with the currency redenomination: Ammunition Throwing Weapons Fisher’s Secondary Tools Fishing Tackle Lures Other obsolete items * Arrows will no longer be required to use bows upon release of FFXIV: ARR. * Consumable throwing weapons will be replaced by non-consumable versions. * Spearfishing will be removed, and the existing fishing system will be changed.
