Well I'd say SE is pretty much sticking with the Market Wards and no AH will be implemented based on the following Q&A.  Alot of peolpe were wanting one like myself but well.. read for yourself.  I have faith in the Wards as it grows.  Just gotta have patience but any mmorpg's financial market can make or break a server so let's hope it gets in order soon.

Q&A with SE and the official link with specific Market Ward area details (which items to be sold where)

http://lodestone.finalfantasyxiv.com/pl/topics/detail?id=693682a80ae927d74b11a0381c7cd1af570568aa

Also the makers of ffxiah.com have come out with http://www.ffxivpro.com/ to help with the current Market Ward.

Q. I have read that there are changes planned to improve the market system, but is there any more specific information available regarding these changes and the direction the market system will take?

A. We have continued to receive copious amounts of feedback regarding changes that players would like to see made to the market system. As a result, we are planning a number of revisions and additions to the system, the first of which are scheduled to be implemented in the next one to two weeks.

Specifically, market wards will be organized according to specific item types, making it easier to consolidate similar items in the same area. Further, if an item sold within a ward corresponds to that wards’ item type, the tax incurred will be reduced. Items not of that ward’s category may still be sold, but the tax imposed will remain the same as it has up until now.

We will be closely monitoring the trends and developments of the market system following the implementation of these revisions and new features, and will continue to make further adjustments and alterations to improve player usability and convenience. For example, we are currently looking into options that will provide players with precise information as to which items are located in which market areas, or the ability to seek out specific items without the need for speaking to retainers, and more.  (Sounds a lot like a Auction House to me lol)

Also, we are now taking steps to increase the number of retainers that a character is able to simultaneously employ.

Q. What is the deal with the anima regeneration rate?

A. During the Open Beta, anima was recovered at the rate of one point every six hours (Earth time). Since service began last week for owners of the collector’s edition, however, that rate has been adjusted to one point every four hours.  (I thought for sure this wouuld be changed sooner than later but doesn't look like it especially with the lack of other transportation options)

Q. What kind of effects does eating have on my character?

A. Eating food serves to temporarily increase certain stats, such as physical and magic attack power, or attributes, such as strength and dexterity. Also, there are foods and dishes suited more to the palates of certain races than others, resulting in more powerful effects.

That's what I was looking for in the market area, some sort of direction as to where to stick my retainer. I haven't tried to eat anything yet...shame on me, I should at least try some fish :)

Although I have seen people eat things that "doesn't agree with them"

I have not tried any food either. Probably because I haven't had the need for xp pt's yet, don't need food for my leve's and not ready to start spending gil on food items anyway.

The MWards is a mess right now but looks like they'll get it in order..somewhat. It's nothing but Rolanberry Fields on roids right now and just completely useless like a monkey f'ing a football. Dependency on the Ward to make gil is not good but with these changes thing will at least be organized. They have to put in more search options like they mentioned though to find items you need without talking to mass npc's.

Even organized into specific wards it will not alleviate the mass traffic jam in there or the mass time it takes to check them all.

Think about how many people put stuff up on the AH in ffxi.. then translate that into every person having a npc.  It's just too much.  It's very hard for me to get a grip on market prices.. what things are going for as well.   Also, as a buyer I want to know if I can find it cheaper elsewhere without having to travel to each city to check mass npc's in each ward but that looks unavoidable.

Pricing out stuff or being able to compete is difficult in the current state unless you are localized outside the Wards like in Ul'dah where everyone sells out of their own bazaars and shouts in that 1 main street.

That made me laugh :D

On the subject... it is great that they are implementing some kind of structure. The problem with this solutions is IMO that a lot of people will not really be aware of the fact that the should put their items for sale at different locations.

And yes... search would be essential. Just a way to see what is in the MW you are at if nothing else.

Oooo thanks for the FFXIV Pro link Vicious. I didn't know they were making a version for this MMO too. I used the XI one so much, really good resource to have. I know Origin and YG have their own versions but they don't seem to get as much traffic for buying/selling. Maybe that one can be a central site since so many are already familiar with it.

Definitely have to link that on my site. ^.^

np. It's a beta still and since there is no AH obviously it's not the same but it's there if a AH is ever installed and it still is a great way to track information via npc bazaars and who is selling what/where.

For now I think it's a good idea to have several sites like yg, ffxivpro, origin, etc. Not everyone uses a centralized site. I just like the ffxivpro setup and the links to wiki and zam such as on this along with all the bazaars to the right:

I'm kind of hoping that Square will see that people are trying to create a search outside of game and just add it in game. The market wards may be the one thing that kills this game for me. I do not find it enjoyable at all.

yeah we'll have to see what they do with it between now and the ps3 release or at least I will. I can't stand how it is now and I'm not sure a AH is the answer again but that's why I figure between now and March we'll have a very good idea what this game will be like for the next year at least. If it's still a pain in the butt then I'll just play Socom in March lol.
